WASmNGTON Dec 26 Studies to determine the effects upon workersof exposure to ra dium rays have been extended to the midwest by the U S Public Health service More than 200 women clock faq tory employes in the vicinity of New York City already have been examined by scientific Investiga tors of the service Take Several Months Ustng especially appar atus the Investigators have sub jected worker to a searching examination that Is expected after Xray plates have been developed to disclose the slightest trace of radium It will require several months Dr L R Thompson who is direct ing the inquiry for the health ice said today to complete study of the plates obtained by the field workersand prepare the results of their study for publication To Expand Inquiry The study is the mo at exhaustive ever undertaken to determine how radium rays affect workers who come into intimate contact with them Five Nejr Jersey women and a number of workers elsewhere have been stricken after exposure to radium rays in clock factories and several deaths have resulted Dr Thompson explained the health service has decided to ex pand its inquiry to Illinois in order to obtain data that will be as com plete as
