propane plant in De cember The plant went into op eration in 1956 We are restricted to a fixed amount of gas from the North era Natural Gas Co explained Leslie G Hawkins Intelstates district manager at Mason City It will take care of demands until the mean temperature gets to about zero Then we have to supplement it with the propane from our standby plant Aside from the problem of just keeping warm there are other human difficulties Some of them create unusual ex penses for December One in volves keeping machinery operating but of doors despite the severe cold I The cement geared to cold Company has been slowed down due to the sudden cold spell because of freezing of the beets in piles at various stations according to M C Larsen plant super itftendent Because of the mild fall and boxcar shortage much of the beet crop had been piled up at various points Now these beets are coming in frozen in the cars and are difficult to unload The frozen beets also slow down produc tion in the plant according to Larsen Cold weather also makes it more difficult for the Mason City Brick Tile Company to keep operating its plant but it is running under slowed up Tiros launch Two hourslaterr Mason City group wants the route moved eastward to the Clear Lake arearas an al ternative to another route in the GarnerForest City area Highway Commission engi neers presently are engaged in a study of routing the interstate between Mason City airport and Clear Lake but Hileman noted that engineers had previ ously professed to the belief that this route was too built up with too many mineral rights to be acquired to make the route feasible H i I e ma n commented that swinging the interestate east ward on a diagonal routing in the Clear Lake area would pro duce a different road user benefit situation In his letter to Bradley the association secretary said his group was sympathetic to everyone regarding the route location The association was equally sympathetic to the High way Commission which wanted the most feasible route for the traveling public and the most economical But Hileman said The Good Roads Association anticipates that a number of similar situ ations could
