Kans Dec 19 was completed to day in the murder trial of Majm Charles A Shepard accused of pois oning his wife so he might be free to marry Miss Grace Brandon young stenographer Indications were thai the case would reach the jury in federal court here at about noon tomorrow At the end of rebuttal testimony the defense filed a motion for a di rected verdict of acquittal on the ground that the government had not produced sufficient evidence to convict The motion was denied by Judge Richard J Hopkins All witnesses then were excusec and counsel prepared for final argu ments with three hours allotted to each side MOSCOW ORDER CLOSES BANK OF KOREA IN RUSSIA Disagreement May Have Effects of Serious Character TOKYO Dec 19 inter L national disagreement which may have repercussions of a serious iharacter developed today between Fapaa and communistic Russia as a consequence a Moscow order closing the Vladivostok branch of the Bank of Korea yesterday The Japanese foreign office cabled he Japanese ambassador at Mos cow to inform the soviet govern ment that Tokyo considers the clos ng an unjustifiable and unfriendly act and to request withdrawal of he closure order The message also asked that the Moscow government enter into conversations with a view o reaching an amicable settlement The soviet embassy here mean while issued a statement explain ing that existence of the bank alleged seizure of a case of Scotch whisky after it had been deliveredat the offices of the Northwestern States Portland Cement company Monday afternoon The officer stated that he had not determined upon what fur ther action would be taken by the government Gossiphad associated the seizure with the Northwestern offices but not until Colonel Parsons arrival Thursday night could an official returned Friday after noon Lindbergh Puts Out Fire in His Plane Wife Sits Unharmed BALTIMORE Maine Dec 19 7P Charles A Lindberghs plane caught fire at Logan field today as he was about to leave for New Yorlc with Mrs Lindbergh but he extin guished the flames unaided Mrs Lindbergh the former Anne Morrow was in the cockpit as oil or gasoline on an exhaust pipe caught fire apparently from back fire Thompson announced his candidacy today for a fourth term as mayor of Chicago The executive made known his intentions to a group of republican ward committcemen who presented a memorial at his office Clews Found SHEFFIELD Dec check up at the First National bank here today showed was stolen by bandits yesterday morning Offi cials were still continuing their search this afternoon for the rob bers No clews have been discovered by officials J V Anrey and George Atkins of the state department of justice bureau of identification arrived last night and left again today after making investigations Business was resumed as usual at the bank today on receipt of word from the insurance company that the banks claim of the theft would be accepted Activities at the bank were temporarily suspended after the robbery until notified by the insurance company that the claim was accepted Were Not Masked Reuben Wolf president of the bank declared today he was confi dent he could identify the bandits if they were ever brot before him He said he was able to fix the faces of the robbers clearly in his mind They were not masked A report was received Latimer that yesterday morning shortly before the robbery occurred three men answering the ddscrip tions of the bandits accompanied by a woman and driving a Hudson stopped and inquired the road to Sheffield Another report was re ceived from Hampton that in quiries were made there by three men who wanted to know about the banks in Franklin county Seen Speeding Away The robbers were last seen yes terday morning by Dan Edgington and his son when an automobile answering the description of that of the bandits went post their homo five miles northwest of Sheffield Two armed robbers entered the bank yesterday while a third waited outside They ordered the president cashier and teller to lie on the floor Then they scooped up some money from the vault and money from the counter drawer George Stoll vice president came in during the course of
