Globe-Gazette (Newspaper) - December 15, 1965, Mason City, Iowa Disrupt communications SPACER JPRNTTWI imt SPACE CENTER HOUSTON A the first major communications disruption hit the the Gemini 7 space flight Tuesday An electrical storm that moved across the Hawan area caused the troublesaid Paul Haney Center at the Manned Spacecraft He said the spacecraft was talking with a tracking ship anchored between Japan and the i Philippines at the time of the break Communica tion was lost between the ship the coastal sentry Quebec and the space center at Houston Gemini 7 continued to be in communication with the vessel Haney said power failed at the Hawaii ground tracking station and also at an amplifier in the Syncom communications satellite terminal at Honolulu Communications were Wednesday U the successful blastoff of the Gemini G spacecraft Mrs Faye Stafford nearly jumped off the couch and Suzanne Schirra 8 told a school chum an hour later she was still jumping up and down Both Mrs Schirra and Mrs Stafford talked to newsmen in light rain outside their homes Needless to say it was beautiful said Mrs Schirra who appeared with her childrenWalter Marty III la and Suzanne
