Iowa 4H Camp Fund Drive This goal was established Thursday at the first meeting of the Cerro Gordo County Central Committee for the drive The tentative opening date for the drive was fixed for Jan 19 by the committee The money received from the drive will be used to complete construction on the 4H Camping Center located six miles south of Boone Dm Paper ConuMs ol four No CERRO GORDO County is among 38 counties in lhc slale which have not held fund drives The 61 other counties have raised for the camping center in 10 years George Boehnke assistant stale Boys 4H Club leader told the Cerro Gordo County commit tee that the completed cost of the center would approach The camp is comprised of 615 acres of woodlands trails and camp sites and furnishes the only year around camping facilities in the state More than camp ers from every county in the stale have laken advantage of the center thus far in 1958 BOEHNKE EXPLAINED to the committee that about 60 per cent of the camping center is com pleted and that it is hoped all county fund drives will be fin ished by the end of 1959 The center is open to all groups with 4H clubs getting first pref erence on dates The only week ends that the center has open this year are over Christmas and New Years The original cost for the camp ing site was nearly and was paid for through contribu tions from the various 4H clubs around the state THE PURPOSE of the camp is to give youngsters an outof doors experience where empha sis is placed on the enjoyment of living and where the campers have an opportunity to take considerable responsibility
