average of 50 bushels to the acre while others re port below 40 bushels to the acre Corn is to be a normal yield but more rain is needed Truck crops are generally fine Cabbage sold last week for a tort on the Chris Gaplerud farm They were a tonlast year The onion yield looks now like a big crop Potatoes arc below normal due to the drouth Among the heavy beef feeders in the county are Robert Clark who lives near Orchard andM C Lewis of West Lincoln township Mr Clark is now feeding a herd of 101 steers The farmers In this county buy their cattle and feed them on corn rather than raising them tho of course the boys and girls 4H clubs j are encouraging the raising of high I class stock Mixed Cattle Breedi The kinds of dairy cattle used here are mixed breeds Holstein Brown Swiss and Guernsey More and more the farmers are coming to realise the importance of the cream check which brings in a steady income during the months when there ready for the market These cream checks In any store are as good as currency The high point in butter shipped was in June when 202 tubs were shipped out of the Osage creamery in week alone to say nothing of the other big creamerys In the county were feeding silage Silage fed during the summer months will hold the dairy cow to a more even milk production thru the hot weather and fly time The 413 cows on test for July produced 233322 pounds of milk and 91TD pounds of butterfat The average milk and fat for each of the 413 cows waa 565 pounds milk and 223 pounds fat Sixtyseven and eight tenth pounds was the high butterfat mark made by a grade Brown Swiss cow owned by Melvin Balsley of Osage Twentyfour and onetenth pounds fat was the high herd aver age for the month and was made by fourteen grade Guernseys owned by Fred Langrock of Toetervllle 323 Pounds Average Thirtytwo and threetenths pounds fat was the average made by 10 purebred Holsteins owned by A C Trettin and Son of Otranto Six cowsin the Trettin herd were sired by Sir Pieterje Allgretta Segis This sire had eight laughters on test that averaged 3732 pounds fat each Thirtyone and seven tenths pounds fat from 10 grade and pure bred Holsteins two cows dry was the average from Clifford Thorsens herd T Fifteen purebred Brown Swiss and grade Holstetns owned by George Godfrey of Osage carried a butter fat average of 299 pounds Mr God frey has a purebred Brown Swiss cow in his herd that isa half sister to Swiss Valley Girl Tenth the world record butterfat cow of the breed with 1106 pounds of butter fat There are not as many hogs raised this year In the county as formerly due to the uncertain corn crops of the past few yearse MRS W A SHELLEY afraid to cross the street or come up town For five years I suffered ter ribly with liver and gall bladder
