FOR CONCERT IN PARK ON SUNDAY Musicians Polish Pieces to Be Presented Aug 11 at Cedar Falls Numbers to be presented by the Mason City municipal band at the state contest Friday Aug 11 at Cedar Falls were scheduled for the program Sunday night at 8 oclock in East park These numbers are an overture Fountain of Youth by King required number for com petition and Slavonic Rhapsody by Friedman named as the selec tive piece of the local band The band has been putting in much extra time rehearsing these two numbers polishing1 them as finely as possible for the stiff com petition expected at Cedar Falls from all parts of the state Music scores have been changed some to make more effective the loca bands interpretation of the selec tion Competition will be in two classes for class A towns of 3000 and more In population and class B for towns of less than 3000 In class A prizes will be First 5200 second 5100 third Class B prizes will bo First 5100 second and third 550 Prcscott Is Judge Judges of the contest will be Ger ald R Prescott Minneapolis Uni versity of Minnesota band director and formerly of Mason City Lyle W Downey band and orchestra di rector of Kansas State college Man hattan Kans and Edson Morphy band and orchestra director Univer sity of Wisconsin Madison In addition to the contest num bers the local band Is preparing marches to be used in the massec event in the evening after the con test Another feature on the Sunday night program is a solo by Dr R F Kunz tenor Dr Kunz who will sing popular numbers with band accom paniment is welt known to local audiences for his musical ability Descriptive on Program In the Clockstore a descriptive fantasia by Orth on the Sunday night program includes many novel effects The Wednesday night concert in cludes Stradella overture by Rossini Babes in Toyland by Herbert a descriptive Forge in the Forest by Michailes a waltz Wine Women and Song by Strauss and a caprice Lovers anc by King A generous propor ton of marches of primary highway and for one 402 mile grading project tha state highway commission an nounced today The paving projects are on high ways in Osceola Clay Carroll and Humboldt counties and the grading job on 402 miles of primary road 88 near Bondurant in Polk county The Osceola county project in volves the paving of 6816 miles of primary road 33 out of SIbley north east to primary 21 In Clay county the call for bids contemplates the paving of 5652 miles of primary 10 from U S 71 west toward Peterson The Carroll county project is for 629T miles of primary 46 from Manning east to U S 71 and that In Humboldt county for 5028 miles of paving on primary 169 from the Webster county line north into Humboldt to primary 10 Bids also will be received at the same time for bridge and culvert work on
