State highway commissioners are placed on a flat salary hasis of a year and required to de vote full time to their respective du ties in the Rutledge bill passed by the Iowa house of representatives 71 to The measure goes to the senate for concurrence Senate file 480 In aid of counties desiring to increase their bonded in debtedness to complete primary roads was passed by the house after adopting an amendment The origi nal senate bill raised the indebted ness limit from 3 to 4 per cent of the total taxable property in coun ties The amendment leaves tho J per cent limit intact but makes an exception in the case of primary road completion in which case the total bond limit in addition to all otherexpense may be 4 per cent An attempt in the house by Rep resentative Brede Wamstad to with draw from the sifting committee the persistent violator bill relating1 to liquor law statutes failed for lack of a twothirds majority vote in its favor House Adopts Resolution The house adopted 58 to 25 joint resolution for appointment of a legislative committee to inspect and make recommendation on ad visability of acquiring by purchase for a state park a 700 acre tract of land bordering Spirit Lake A Joint resolution by Speaker Johnson to memorialize congress to take immediate steps to increase housing facilities for the veterans hospital at Knoxville Iowa was adopted The speaker explained the hospital was originally built to ac commodate 450 persons but now is housing 580 persons and 150 more are eligible for admission Senate and house conference com mittees on the biennial budget bill agreed upon their report and will return it to the senate this after noon Senator Stoddard of Wood bury and Representative Hansen of Scott chairmen of the appropria tions committees would not esti mate at what figure a compromise had been suggested Approves Senate Figure The conference committee it was reported voted approval of the sen ate figure o 33QO000 for the TJui yersity poses fund and restored the 000 appropriation for a library site The university hospital allotment was set In committee at For Iowa State college was added to the house figure The houso cut of Iowa State Teachers mended for passage the Greene Souse bill to empower river border cities to obtain singly or jointly with cities of other states bridges over boundary streams The bill applies especially to Council met with a serious acci dent He was driving in the Cline sedan on No 18 one mile Just west of Garner after crossing the Iowa riv er bridge when a car came from behind striking the Cline car which
