Taking applications for superintendent the los Lunas consolidated schools will be taking applications for the position of superintendent for a period of 30 Days. At a special meeting last thursday the Board upon recommendation of the acting superintendent Raymond Gabaldon voted to declare a vacancy in the position. Supt. Bernard Baca is on sick leave but has indicated he will not seek the position again when his contract expires. No action was taken on the resignation submitted by Sal Gonzalez who had told the Board he wished to quit As head football coach and Quot by team baseball assistant. Gabaldon said the matter was handled administratively and that Gonzalez will continue the season As assistant baseball coach for the Junior varsity. George kitchens will be coaching the Junior High track team in place of Jesus de Herrera who is unable to continue in that capacity because of an injury. The project which is expected to take about nine months will include updating of the zoning ordinance updating of the water and sewer Utility plan to provide for anticipated growth and changes in Utility needs formulation of a Street plan to guide the Village in providing for anticipated traffic increases and a plan for recreational facilities. The plan was outlined by cog officials at joint meeting of the Village Council and the los Lunas planning commission last week. A steering committee made up of members of the Council and the commission will formulate an interim Community report or development guide based on present resources potentials and citizen goals. Existing land use policies physical facilities and natural and human resources will be reviewed and the guide will contain a projection of future land use plans and goals. A task Force will be established to recommend a functional plan and program for water and sewer lines specifications rate structuring and other operational phases will be included. The present water and sewer plan will be updated and recommendations will be made related to provision of utilities to serve future land use distributions. A general evaluation will be made of the watershed characteristics and problems associated with planning development and management of drainage in the los Lunas area and a Long Range schedule for the formulation of a master plan and program will be formulated. Under the major Street plan the existing Street system in the Village will be inventoried and functionally classified according to the character of service each Street is intended to provide. An analysis of the adequacy of existing Street systems will be made and a set of development standards formulated. Major corridors will be recommended to correspond with and serve future land use distributions and a Green Belt plan for those corridors will be designed to enhance the appearance of the area. A task Force composed of representatives of the Village administration and the local Post office will be formed to develop a Street address identification and management system. Standards for Street numbering and naming will be provided and a handbook of procedures for administering and maintaining the system will be published for use by the Village administration. The Village already has set in motion plans. For improving the Daniel Fernandez Park South of the Village on us-85, with its application for state funds. In updating the comprehensive plan an inventory of existing outdoor recreation facilities and locations in the planning area and an analysis of the estimated future recreation demands for the area will be made.
