We hear from Plombieres in Lorrain, that Marina] Bel-, fcifle, who is drinking the Waters there, has found fomuch Smfit by them that he has actually loft the Ufe of all his Limbs, and is utterly incapable of. any military Command. We are told from Paris, that the Parliament will forthwith regifter the Edift which lately palled in tbe Council of State, concerning the Encouragement to be given the Privateers of France : According to this Edic*r, the Privateer is to pot the Expence of fitting out his Ship and all other Charges in Ballance againft the Value of his Prize, and then pay 10 per Cent, to the Admiralty out of his dear Profit, if there be any. By the fame Advices it appears/ that there are 140,000 French Troops in Alface, and on thi Borders of Lorrain, befides an Army of about 40,000 Men actually aflembling on the Menfe. The 16th Inftant, N.S. a grand Conference was held at MauritzboujgtaPrefenceof their Polifh Majeftics, to which the Ruffian, Auftrian and Dutch Miniftera were invited ; the Subject they deliberated on was, the approaching March of a Body of Saxon Troops, fome of which, ,*w Cud, are in the Pay of jGreauBritain, and the reft faired by Raffia. We bear from Strafbourgh, that four Peribns have been taken into Cuftody on Sufpicion of having fet Fire to the Forrage-Magazine of that City, and that one of them is found guilty of the Fa&, as well as of having been concerned in difperfingfeditious Papers in Lorrain. Letters from Mctz fay, that on the 22d Inftant, N,S. a large Detachment of Huflars (fuppofed to be Colonel Ment-wl's) appeared in that Neighbourhood, and an Officer of the Ganifon having been fent out to afk the Commandant in whofe Name he came, they fired upon him, and killed him on the Spot: That this Detachment had laid feveral ParUbes under Contribution, ranfacked the Abbeys ofLilleo, and St. Aonft for refilling Payment j burnt many Houfes in different Villages, plundered a Convent of Nans, and committed divers other Excefies in it, and then took the Route to Luxembourg. Letters from Leghorn import, that according to the laft Accounts from the Ifland of Sicily the Plague was almoft totally ceafed at Meffina, and that the Report of its being got into Calabria was far from being confirmed; feveral Per-ons having died foddenly at Palma had indeed given Rife to fuch a Rumour, but that upon ftrifter Enquiry the Phyfi-cisns had declared it to be nothing elfe but the bloody Flux, caufed from the making tod free vHih the ripe Fruit; they add, that the Publick Diverfions which had been for fome Time fufpended, were revived again, and that the Appre-henfion of its fpreading any farther were entirely over, the iitmoft Precautions being taken to prevent it. The Doddington, ThretfeU, from Jamaica, is arrived at Leverpool. She came oat the ,27th Of June, which was five Days after the Fleet fail'd, under Convoy of the Lyon Man of War. Captain Thretfell was attack'd in the Windward Paflage by a large Spanilh Privateer, whom he fought three Hours, kill'd the Captain and feveral of the Men, and oblig'd her to fheer off. On 1 nefday Morning laft the Saccefs, Capt. Keigwin, front Leghorn for London, (which Ship wasjlying Quaran-tint) was burnt by Accident. t Yefterday there was Advice, that the Mary, Merry, from Genoa in Ballaft, is carried into Malaga; and it was reported, that a large Ship, laden with Currants, was alfo taken, but not carried in. On Tuefday Night laft a Meflenger arrived from his Majefty, with fome Important Difpatches. His Majefty has been pleafed to appoint the Hon. Henry Pelham, Efq; to be Firft Lord Commilfioner of the Trea-fury, in the room of the Right Hon. the Earl of Wilmington, deceafed. His Royal Highnefs the Duke of Cumberland is fo well recovered, that he dines every pay with his Majefty, and walks very well. ft On Monday jlaft Mr. Herring, an eminent Watch and Clock-maker at the Hermitage, was married to the youngeft Daughter of Mr. Henniker, Maft-Contratlor to the Royal Navy, and Eaft-India Company ; a young Lady of great Accomplifhments, and a very large Fortune. We near from Tewkfbury in Gloncefterfhire, that on Thurfday laft they had a very furprizing Storm of Hail, attended with dreadful Thunder and Lightning ; the Hail-Stones refembled Pieces of Ice, fome of them as large as an Egg, and did near 501. Damage to the Windows of the Church,and about 4001. to the Town ; feveral Pidgeons on the Tops of Houfes were killed thereby ; and theftanding Corn in the Fields adjacent, was alfo greatly damag'd. On the 12th Inftant died at his Seat of Baligmo, in the Shire of Kincardine, in Scotland, Mr. John Ogilvy, Advocate, in an advanced Age $ he was a Man of great Charity, Probity, Piety, and Learning, and much efteem'd by all who knew him. On Monday laft died in Oxford-Road Mr. Thompfon, a Corn-Chandler; a Man of Good Fortune, and much efteem'd by his Acquaintance. On Tuelday a Gentleman and his Wife were robb'd in their Chariot near Colnbrook, by a fingle Highwayman very well mounted, who behaved in a very complaifant manner, telling them he had fix Children to maintain, and was under a Neceffity of acting as he did. The Lady gave him, amongft her Money, a'Pocket Piece, which he re-: tarn'd to her, gave the Coachman a Shilling, and then rode off. Yefterday Philip Jones was committed, by Col. DeVeil, to Clerkenwell Bridewell, for. felonioufly taking out of tbe Dwelling-houfe of Mr. Robert Champion, a large Silver Spoon, found upon him. At the Cocoa-Tree in Johnfon's Court at Charing Crofs,-is to be fold, good Harts-Horn Jellies, at Two Shillings a Dozen : the Sign of the White-Lyon being at the Entrance of the faid Court, near the Gown Warehoufe.
