Logansport Pharos Tribune (Newspaper) - November 8, 2008, Logansport, IndianaPharos t Logansport ind. Pharos Tribune editorial Board Robyn Mccloskey regional publisher Caria Knapp associate editor Kim Dillon general manager Steve Summers presentation editor Kelly Hawes managing editor Beau Wicker sports editor saturday a this Page designed by Steve Summers a4 november 8, 8god?Ts world is Beautiful on an autumn afternoon this saturday has been an exceptional Day. Chuck Mays brought All of the nuts and goodies Over that we ordered from him and Marie pecans cashews mixed nuts and chocolate covered cashews. While he was Here Janie called Steve and Deb Over and we All sat and talked awhile. Its almost time to vote in an important election and since we Are All conservatives i imagine the ears of All the democrats were burning. In a certain we will All be up late on tuesday. While we were sitting at the table a three Point Buck strolled leisurely out of my Garden and ambled across the Yard to one of the wild Cherry Trees where he cleaned up a few cherries that were still lying in the Yard. He did no to seem Bowyer a look at life concerned at All about the cars or my House or All of us standing at the window watching him. After eating what he wanted he walked on into my Woods across the driveway and disappeared. He was a Beautiful animal and Janie and i Are always thrilled to see one in our Yard. Steve gripes about them tearing up one of his Trees on occasion but after All we built our Homes in their Woods so what can we expect after Chuck and the kids left Janie and 1 decided to drive up the South River Road our Road to Peru and get groceries. The Trees along the River have most of their leaves yet and Are still quite colourful. The water was unruffled and there was a perfect reflection on its surface of the Trees on the opposite Bank. Mornings like this Are rare and we enjoyed the drive immensely. Back in our living room we were working the crossword Puzzle when we heard a thump from the direction of the Back porch. 1 investigated and saw a Chickadee one of the Many Birds that try to Fly through our House without opening the doors lying on the porch floor. I went out and picked it up gently and since it looked like it was still alive i cupped it in my hands to keep it warm hoping it would recover. For about 10 minutes it just Lay there blinking its eyes and panting with its Mouth wide open. I did no to know if it was going to make it or not but finally it closed its Mouth and stopped blinking its eyes so much. A moment or two More and it roused itself up and perched on my Finger. I walked Over to the door so Janie could see it and she came out to look. As she reached Over and stroked its head the Bird spread its wings and flew away into the Woods. It was a pretty Little thing and it was a thrill to hold one of gods creatures in my hand and be Able to look at it so closely. While i was out on the Back porch 1 heard my pet Chipmunk running around in the leaves and looked Down Over the railing to see if i could spot him. I did no to have to search very much because the Nuthatches were eating at my Bir feeder and on the ground below them was a a chips eating everything they spilled Over the Edge of the feeder. He has his Hole dug right beside the shepherds Crook the feeder hangs on so he does no to have to go far for his meal. I help but think that Janie and i have quite an ecosystem. My Garden and Stevens Trees feed the Deer which come Over and clean up the wild cherries in the Yard As they pass by. The Bird feeders out Back feed the Birds and anything that gets spilled is cleaned up by my Little Friend on the ground. Nothing seems to be wasted around Here. There is Only one troubling aspect about the system and that is a Hawk that on occasion when the ground remains covered with deep Snow takes a meal off of my Bir feeder. I know this is probably Normal and acceptable in gods eyes because Hawks have to eat too but i feel like some sort of criminal enabler when i see him come gliding out of one of the Trees in my Woods and zip under my Back porch to satisfy his appetite. Do you know what i mean Well i guess we All do the Best we can to live together in gods world. Sometimes one of us has to be the victim and if you Are a Small Bird and the Hawk is hungry 1 guess you re it nevertheless this has been a Beautiful saturday so far and its Only about two thirds gone. I Hope something else Good happens while in a mowing the grass. Foe Bowyer is a columnist for the pharos Tribune.
