of bonds at THE twittering editor over the way cannot see in the comingof Speaker Reed a compliment to Logansport and the distinguished representative of the Tenth district but imagines that he comes here for the same purpose that Voorhees did This is one of the numerous mistakes of Benjamin WHY does not the Journal take some neighboring county to compare with All right well go you Cass county collected county revenues for the year ending May 31 1890 and had to borrow besides Pulaski county for the same year collected EightyFive Counties Of WWch Cass Has ffie Highest County Levy THE FIGURES OF THE JOURNAL SUBSTANTIATED AT THE TREASURERS OFFICE TIPPECANOE county last year built a bridge over the Wabash river It has free gravel roads and a half million dollar court hpuse one of the most beautiful in the State The levy 4s county 60 free gravel roads 4J bridge 10 court house 4 Cass county has none of these and none to pay for put of the county levy of 801 THE Pharos is just spoiling for a row and insists that the Journal cease its in insinuations and make specific charges giving day and date In the first place the Journal is not insinuat ing but is simply pubblishing facts In the second place it is the duty of The official organ of Cass county to explain to the people why those facts exist and in the third place the Jour nal never publishes any facts unless the documents are obtainable to sub stantiate in those facts THE answer to the high levy made by the ring is unique Cass county they say has no separate levies yet the first time there are bonds to pay there is a bond levy The fact is that Cass county has no separate levy be cause she has nothing to pay for by separate levy and when she has there is and will be a separate levy The 80J is higher than most of the counties in the State with special levies added and it is higher by far the average being about 40 than eightyfive coun ties comparing county levy with county levy the only fair comparison tickets by the election clerks the printed on pink paper and the county ticket printed on white paper The names ot all the candidates b printed on these tickets under the respective bends To vote the straight tickets stamp the tickets both the county and State on the square at the left of the tt le Republican ticket and hand them to the electjon Judge who billojt THE COUNTY TAX LEVY FOR 1889 on WHICH THE TAX PAYERS ARE PAYING THIS SPRING AND FALL IS 80J THEKE IS NO BRIDGE LEVY NO FREE GRAVEL ROAD LEVY AND NO BOND LFVY IN THAT 80 AND NONE OF THE REVENUE IS USED FOB THOSE PURPOSES THE NEW BRIDGES WERE PAID FOR OUT OF CASH REALIZED FROM THE SALE OF THE 000 BONDS AND THOSE BONDS ARE TO BE PAID FOR BY A BOND LEVY OF 10 CENTS THE COLLECTION OF WHICH COM MENCES NEXT YEAR CASS COUNTYS LEVY is COMPARE IT WITH THE COUNTY LEVY OF THE OTHEH COUNTIES And the Pharos Figures Clearly Fully aud Minutely Exposed It will be remembered that the Journal expressed the opinion that Cass county had a higher tax levy than any other county in the State and sought to obtain information on that subject How far the figures justify that opinion the public can see Of eightythree counties Cass has the highest levy and BY THE PHAROS OWN FIGURES ONLY FOUR HAVE A HIGHER LEVY THAN CASS ADDING TO THE COUNTY LEVY THE FREE GRAVEL ROAD AND OTHER SPECIAL LEVIES TWO of these four are bogus and belong below Cass as is shown in another column of the paper The few miscellaneous items will be explained later The figures marked with a cross in the Pharos figures are wrong and explained in anqther portion of the paper The claim of the Journal has been fully estab lished and the startling truth of the tax levy revealed and the dodging and personal abuse of the Pharos explained The law requires free gravel road bridge bond monument and sinking fund taxes to be collected by special levy The Pharos claim that there are any of these in the 80 is false and such a thing would be illegal To COUNTY LEVY ADD SPECIAL LEVIES AND GET PHAROS FIGURES will depoaltthe red ticket in the red and the whiteticket in the white ballot Box The Democratic candidates will be placed on the left olthe ticket the Republican candidates the right and other candidates next1 CASS LA PORTE 231 FACTS are stubborn things TUB SB is yet hope that the Pharos may tell all THERE is nothing so as a frank confession commendable COUNTY revenue year ending May 31 1890 THE Pharos asks why the Journal does not take some neighboring county to Cass for its comparison That was fully explained yesterday morning LaPorte county is a Democratic coun ty ths postal card is from a Democrat formerly Mayor of Logansport and the Auditor of the county now and the county is larger than Cass in popula tion and acreage Cass has 31112 eLflPprte 84466 people
