Lockhart Post Register (Newspaper) - December 13, 2012, Lockhart, Texas Graduating seniors from Lockhart, Luling and Prairie Lea High Schools are encouraged to check- out www. hlsr. com. Look for “ Scholarships” and “ Apply for Scholarship” and select Area Go Texan in online application. Last year, two $ 16,000 scholarships and 14 $ 1,350.00 local scholarships were awarded to students from these schools, via Area Go Texan. Online HLSR Applications are due by March 1, 2013. Meeting all the requirements will do two things. First, it will allow an applicant to compete for an Area Go Texan four- year $ 18,000 scholarship for one student in Caldwell County. Second, it will allow a student to compete for local, Caldwell County Go Texan scholarships. Once a student has applied for the HLSR Area Go Texan scholarship and met all of the HLSR qualifications and is a non- winner of the $ 18,000 scholarship, these students will be eligible for the local College/ University scholarships through Caldwell County Go Texan. Another local scholarship to be offered through Caldwell County Go Texan is a Trade/ Vocational Scholarship. Students applying for this scholarship do not have to apply to the Area Go Texan Scholarship but must attend a public high school in Caldwell County, graduate in the top 50 percent of their class and have been accepted to attend a trade/ vocational school. Local Caldwell County Go Texan scholarship applications are due March 31, 2013, to their respective high school counselor. These local scholarships are made possible by Caldwell County community sponsors, donations and fundraisers. Funding for local scholarships last year came primarily from the Go Texan Boots and Hearts Country Ball, as well as generous donations by local businesses and individual sponsors. Mark your calendars for Feb. 9, 2013, when Valentines will be celebrated by a steak dinner, auctions and dance. Tickets for the Caldwell County Go Texan “ Boots and Hearts Country Ball” are on sale now. Plan to join the fun and excitement, and help a local student continue with their education. Questions on applications, both local and HLSR scholarships, can be directed to Counselors at each high school. The winners of the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Decorating contest will also be included in the showcase. D A L L E E N E EW S S B Y J ENNIE B ARKER Jimmy Yandell, pastor of the Dale First Baptist Church, and his wife Patty, have put up Christmas decorations on the outside and inside of the church. This has been done for the community’s enjoyment. There will be an “ open house” at the church so everyone can enjoy the inside decorations on Saturday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 22 from 6 - 9 p. m. The public is invited to come see the decorations while listening to Christmas music and enjoying liquid refreshments of coffee, tea, hot cocoa and hot apple cider. This sounds like a fun, family event that everyone will enjoy. The church is located behind the “ Dale Corner Store.” Thank you Pastor Yandell and Patty for this opportunity to share in the Spirit of Christmas! After more than 15 years, Gene Chamness is “ retiring” from his position as Leasing Agent for the Dale Community Center. We thank him for his dedication to the Community Center and our community.
