Lockhart Post Register (Newspaper) - December 13, 2012, Lockhart, Texas Fighting Lion Alumni Football Practices have begun for this year’s Alumni Football Game, which is expected to see the Lions square off with longtime rivals the Hays Rebels. The game is tentatively scheduled at Bob Shelton Stadium on Feb. 10, 2013. The team has begun gathering for practice at the LHS practice field on Medina Street at 3 p. m. on Sundays. Flag Retirement Ceremony Please join us at VFW Post 8927, 7007 S Hwy 183, Lockhart, as Boy Scout Troop 115 conducts a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15, beginning at 4 p. m. The community is invited to bring any US flags that are frayed, worn and faded for proper retirement and observe the ceremony. This ceremony provides an explanation of, the etiquette related to destroying a worn US flag as the flags are retired. LHS Baseball Opening Day and Alumni Game The Lockhart Lion Baseball Program is making preparations for the annual Opening Day events, which include the popular Alumni Baseball Game. The game is currently scheduled on Feb. 9, 2013. First Baptist Church Open House The Dale First Baptist Church will have an “ open house” on Saturday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 22 from 6 - 9 p. m. for the public to enjoy the church decorations, Christmas music and liquid refreshments. Santa Visits Lytton Springs At 6: 20 p. m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, Santa Claus will make one last stop to the Lytton Springs Store via fire truck to hear all the children’s last- minute Christmas wishes. There will be music and treats for the kids. Photos with Santa will be provided for a small fee. This is our third year of the Lytton Springs Christmas Celebration. Festivities start a 6 p. m. Please make plans to attend and help make our party another smashing success! Softball Tryouts Lockhart Club Ball softball league will be having tryouts beginning Dec. 11, 2012. Bi- Monthly Food Distribution The Texas Extension Education Clubs in Caldwell County will hold their bimonthly food distribution on Wednesday, Dec. 19. New clients must bring proper I. D. and a document with a physical address proving they are residents of Caldwell County. The food will be distributed in the following locations: Lockhart: W. B. Clark Community Center, 809 Redwood Circle, 10 a. m.- noon. Luling: Central Baptist Church Recreation Center, 10 a. m. - noon. Martindale: Martindale City Hall, Main Street, 1 p. m. Prairie Lea: Tri- Community Civic Center, 11: 30 a. m. - 1: 30 p. m. Distribution is held six times a year, always on the third Wednesday of February, April, June, August, October and December. The Texas Extension Education Association- Caldwell County does not discriminate in regard to race, color, sex, disability, religion, age or national origin. A Christmas Dinner will be held at the Maxwell Social Club building on Monday, Dec. 17 beginning at 7 p. m. Club members will furnish hams, turkey and dressing. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a covered dish. Everyone in the community is invited. Santa Claus will be paying a visit so bring the kids and your camera. There is no cost to attend. San Antonio St. in Lockhart, will be having at Live Nativity and Family Activities on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 6 - 7 p. m. Activities will include a cupcake walk, Nativity puzzle and Christmas ornament decoration. All members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend. Hometown Homemade Christmas at Lockhart State Park Come learn how easily Christmas can become a homemade affair with fun, hands- on present making on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 11 a. m. - 2 p. m.! All are invited to put recycled materials to good use in making Christmas ornaments, birdhouses, and bird feeders. Then at 1 p. m., park staff will hold an old- fashioned taffy pull where visitors can learn the process of making this delicious holiday treat. Sampling the taffy is the ( most important) last step! Regular park entrance fees apply. Junior High Band Concerts All are invited! On Dec. 18, the Roaring Lion Sixth Grade Band will perform their Winter Concert in the Junior High Cafeteria, at 7 p. m. Homework Help at the Library The Library offers Homework Help on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4- 5: 30 p. m. Volunteers are needed to help with the tutoring.
