Phone Jean 327-B340, Carol 328-7871, Jane oi] and naturat gas are excellent, tlie Bank of Montreal's September Business Review says. Tlie Review says that while the U.S. has potential resources to meet future demands, the development of these resources "will not be cither easily or quickly achieved." Tlie concern in the U.S. is over supply of energy and this could have considerable bearing on the future development oE Canada's energy resource industries. Energy imports into the U.S. doubled between 1366 and 1970, largely as a result of supply and demand disruptions, and that country's energy demand is expected to grow at fairly strong rates over the next decade, the review says. The review says whether the American energy deficit widens will depjnd on its ability to harness nuclear power or to find means of increasing the supply of hydroelectricity, coal, oil and natural gas from domestic sources NEED ELECTRICITY The need for new electricity sources in the U.S. has led to the consideration of Canadian projects such as the billion James Bay project and Fundy tlda power project, the bank says. The bank says nuclear power will undoubtedly become increasingly important and the ban on Canadian sales of uranium lo the U.S. established in that country in 1959 may be lifted during the 70's. The potential for Increased coal esporls to the U.S. is limited by the huge U.S. reserves, although increased domestic sales and exports to Japan havo helped the Canadian coal industry. The bank says that while Ca-nac ian exports of petroleum and natural gas to the U.S. account for a small proportion of American needs, the increased shortage aids Canada's growth potential greally. While there has been some concern over (lie recenl failure of oil and gas discoveries to keep pace u-ith production, "there can be no question about Canada's ultimate recoverable reserves of oil and natural the bank says.
