Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - September 30, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta -WidnekJay, Soplember 30, 1970 THE IETHBBIDGE HERALD 21 IONGUETTE DINNER DRESS The new longuelle which has been promoled by Women's Wear as the thing is featured in this dinner dress of brown double silk from hem lo three inches abov-e the knee and has a kimono belt and side fastening. Who says women can't have their midi and mini too? Ann Landers DEAR ANN LANDERS: My husband as well as the hus- bands of several of my friends would like you to answer some questions about the male operation called vasectomy. We are all in our late 30s and early '10s and do not want more children. Can you tell us why this completely foolproof operation oannot be performed in au Illinois hospital? According to someone who knows, vasecLomies are done only in the office of certain hours, behind closed doors. Wliy should respectable citizens be forced to behave like criminals in order to terminate their child-bearing days? And why can males in California or New York have this surgery openly, while in Ulinois they are forced to go underground? Hay we hear from you on W DEAR PAST: Your letter is an excellent example of ac- cepting as fact hearsay stuff which is not (rue. According to Dr. James Campbell, the President of Pres- byterian St. Luke's Hospital hi Chicago, the vasectomy is a legal operation in Illinois and about .hah" of these surgical pro- cedures are performed in hospitals. It is such a simple opera- tion that it can be performed in a physician's office, and about 50 per cent of them are. The entire procedure takes about 20 minutes and is relatively painless. The patient can walk away and return lo work in a couple of days. And now may I add a word to correct another mistaken notion. No operation is completely foolproof. Please read the next letter. DEAR ANN LANDERS: I am 35 years old. My husband is 40. After live children and three miscarriages, my husband decided to have a vaseclomy. That was in March. I am now in my fourth month of pregnancy. What happened? Well, it seems my spouse decided it wasn't necessary lo go back and have his seminal fluid checked six weeks after the surgery. At first I couldn't believe 1 was pregnant. It told my doctor it was impossible Irecausc my husband had had a vnscclomy. The doctor said I must be seeing someone on the side or the operation was "unsuccessful." When he asked if my husband had returned lo his physician for a sperm count I said I didn't know but I would ask. Well, I asked, and of course he had not. So please, Ann, tell your readers that tliey should not assume the operation was a success until they get the doctor's word for Is Busting Out All Over DEAR JUNE: Thank you. Vou told them, and ill a most convincing manner. DEAK ANN LANDERS: I am going with a man who is separated from bis wife. .Ike pays rent for a cheap room where he hangs some of lu's clothes but he is never tliere. lie slays with me from Monday through Thursday. On Friday he takes a suitcase and goes to his wife's place. Slie is a big slob and Ike cares nollu'ng for Jier but Ire is nuts about bis cliildren. "Women are a dime a dozen but a man can never replace lu's children." I. love him but I don't think lie is treating me right.
