Both horses took the Triple Crown by winning the Breed- er1; Stakes and both were own- ed by E. P. Taylor's Winfield Farms, This year on Sunday, Octo- ber 1 at p.m., the CTV Television Network telecasts the 82nd running of the Breed- ers Stakes from Woodbine Raceway in Toronto. Like the Prince of Wales Stakes carried by CTV on September 1, the Breeders is run on a grass course over a mile and half length. Two other important thoroughbred races will be car- ried by CTV in the next month Handicap Special on Oc- tober 9 and the Canadian In- ternational Championships on October 22. Both races are run at Woodbine Kaceway in To- ronto. Bassoon recital George Zukerman Is a Can- adian musician with incredible felicity in an instrument rarely heard in solo the bassoon. On Sunday, October 1 at p.m., CBC-TV's Music to See will present Mr. Zukerman, as- sisted by bassoonists Norman Tobias, Nicholas Kilbourne, Wayland Mosher and pianist Andre Savoie, in a recital of works ranging from baroque to contemporary. Woman covers Ottawa for CTV A lively young woman has joined the CTV National News team as Ottawa correspondent, replacing Don Newman who was named chief of the newly opened CTV Washington Bur- j eau. She is Gail Scott, who for the past year was parliament- ary correspondent for CBC radio. Ms. Scott will be the first woman correspondent re- porting from Capitol Hill for a national television network. NEW STATION Toronto's newest television station, CITY-TV, Channel 79 on the UHF band, went on the air Sept. 28. GOES TO B.C. Phyllis Mailing, a Canadian mezzo-soprano who appeared at the Ontario Stratford Festival this summer, will appear in the 1972-73 artists-in-residence ser- ies at Simon Fraser University. Mark Spitz Hope's gue special on HOLLY WOOD (NBC) Olympics winner Mark Spitz, in his first theatrical appearance, will be a guest on the season's first Bob Hope Special. The 22-year-old Indiana Uni- versity pre-dental student from Carmichael, Calif., whose swim- ming f ,e a t s in the Olympiad have made him a sports super- star, is the first man in history to win more than five gold medals at the Olympics. In seven attempts, he had seven wins, seven gold medals and seven world records. The handsome aquatic star joins previously announced guest star David Cassidy in the one-hour variety special, start- ing the 1972-73 season for Hope the first of three Hope spe- cials. Actress-writer has major role In her first major TV role, Toronto actress writer Gail Malenfant plays a girl named Charlie in Friends, a story of off-campus life by Prim Pem.- berton, for telecast on CBC- TV's Sunday at Nine series, Oct 1. The role was a chal- lenge, because Charlie is a 17- year-old, and Gail is a decade older.
