On index, industrials gained .02 to 162.54 and western oils 1.34 to 182.24. Golds dropped .44 to 157.61 and base metals .01 to 94.74. Volume by 11 a.m. was shares, compared with at the same time Tuesday. Losses edged out gains 92 to 84 with 177 issues unchanged.
