Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - September 21, 1973, Lethbridge, Alberta Comedians open season Sept. 23 Canada's zany duo present Stratford Murder Mystery Murder at the Stratford Festival, the Com- monwealth Pennant baseball championship, Kung Fu, high-priced French wine, Geisha girls, a tribute to the RCMP, and the Wayne and Shuster Singing Swinging Grand- mothers are highlights in the first of four Wayne and Shuster Comedy Specials this season. Sept. 23 at 9 p m on CBC television. In the Stratford Murder Mystery, Frank Shuster plays Mavor Mirvish, Canada's most famous ar- tistic director whose mind boggles when murder begins to cut into his profits. As one Hamlet after another is felled by a poisoned dart in the behind, Lootenant Columbo stumbles on stage while looking for his own seat and stays to solve the crimes but not until those noted Shakespearean ac- tors Trevor Tennenbaum and Trelawney Taperman are slain. Columbo is played by Johnny Wayne. In the first Com- monwealth Pennant game between Britain's Chelsea Grouse and the Montreal Expos, bowler-hatted home-run hitters drink tea between strike-outs and show how reserved British ball players can be under stress, including all-star catcher the Hon. Quentin Jellicoe and Sir Basil Baskerville, DSO, who never bats an eye. Scenes for this sketch were filmed partly at Montreal's Jarry Park. In their Newsnose segment, the boys show how, in the art of Kung Fu, the hand is quicker than the sword. French wines come under scrutiny when the real reason for their high price is discovered. Carol Robinson as the most famous Geisha girl in Japan shows what makes Why should we wait for a ticket to Las Vegas, when A.M.A. travel can get them for us right now! Wayne and Shuster have travelled extensively the past two years to the smaller places in Canada on promotional tours for an oil company. In doing this they have met more people face to face outside of show business than most per- formers meet in a lifetime, and it has benefited them, they say. They have found that everyone knows them, although some can't tell which is which. Once, while acting as parade marshals in the annual Parade of the Straits in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., they saw a sign which read "Welcome Wayne and followed by another sign which read "Hi, Frank, Who's That Fellow Beside In Charlottetown, a young boy walked past them, did a classic double- take and said: "Hey! Wayne and Shuster! You guys are so comical it ain't funny." The boys are still trying to figure out that one. They've also been places like Lethbridge, Canmore, Westlock, Grande Prairie and Claresholm, Alta.; Kindersley, Rosetown and Saskatoon in Saskatchewan; Winnipeg, Brandon and Victoria; plus Point Tupper, Port Hastings, Moncton and Sydney in the Maritimes.
