Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - September 17, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta Friday, September 17, 1971 - THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD - 17 Fur trim a new fall trend WEEKEND SPECIALS at CENTRE VILLAGE Store Houn - Closed Men. Open Tues., Wed., Thuri. and Frl. 9 a.m. 9 p.m. Sat. 9 a.m. 6 p.m. MONTREAL - The more things change - as the French say - the more they stay the same. And if that's true of anything, its certainly true of today's fashions. Everything we see, we've seen before, but while design concepts reflect yesterday, the feeling is unmistakable today, with the best elements of the past uninhibitedly accented with today's imaginative and lively invention. Nowadays, fashion direction comes not in one but in a variety of trends. This is Knitting Wool Direct from our Yorkshire, England, mill. FROM ONLY 13c oz. D. Box 55, 39, Well Street, Bradford 1, Yorkshire, England. especially true of fur fashions in which an important fall trend is the return to fur trim on coats and suits in proportions so generous as to border on the exaggerated. Favorite furs for this purpose include fox - in natural colors, i.e. silver, blue, white and red as well as dyed - mink, sable, marten and racoon, the latter sheared and dyed as well as in its natural state. The broadtail type Swakara karakul lamb brings its own special sculpted qualities to the drama of fur trimmed fur, as well as fur trimmed cloth, suede and leather coats and suits. Unbelievably luxurious collars, deep cuffs and generous fur hems accentuate slender hips and waists and highlight elegant, booted legs with the kind of Edwardian flair that is so strikingly illustrated in Visconte's new film "Death in Venice." Romance is really the name of this game and if that scene is a bit too rich for your blood, there are the more sports - minded clothes. Casual coats in suede and leather, trimmed with Alaska fur seal, mink, raccoon and fox again for collar and cuffs. The elbow length cape-another fashion protege - that is on - again, off-again at will, entirely edged with fur sitting primly and perfectly fitted on slender shoulders, makes a wonderful chin snug-gler. The elaborately fur trimmed coat is of course, unthinkable without a hat. This year there is a wide selec- tion of fur hats and hats that mate velours, felts, and even knits, happily with fur. Hats with brims mat are big, bold and adventurous in Swakara karakul lamb, luscious Canada Mink, and a variety of other furs. This is going to be a winter for dressing up. A winter that many women in Canada are going to enjoy because of the cold, rather than despite it. One way or another, its going to be a winter for fur, the kind of fur a fashionable Edwardian would have envied. Well, our dear, long-time friends cut me off promptly and definitely. The same with my in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers. When I called and begged not to be left alone and cried for them to stay with me - they all live nearby - they said: You have to do it yourself. It's a terrible strain, but you were always so busy and will be again. There's nothing we can do. You'd better get yourself a job. I still can't believe those words. Consequently all this set me back much more than if friends and relatives had looked after me and helped me a little bit, even with just a con versation. I was all alone in the house for four months, before I ventured out on my own. Do you think they were right in what they did? C.R., Cody, Wyo. Dear C.R.: Bereavement always comes as a shock and family and friends generally do rally 'round. But in your case, perhaps your demands were a bit too unrealistic and your expectations much too hieh. Although you believe they were all rejecting you, they may actually have been trying to help you face your own bereavement, And if you had done less begging and crying, it might have been easier for them to offer you companionship and conversation. Now that some time has passed and you're venturing out again, why not try seeing things from their point of view and I picking up where you left off.
