Your situation proceeds steadily, if you push yourself to consis- tent effort. Education, im- proving skills are essential, along with more self re- liance. This turned out to be a fortunate choice for the defense, ines. much as it dislodged dum- my's ace before declarer had an opportunity to establish some spade discards for himself. lAfter winning the first trick with tha ace of diamonds, declarer led a heart from dummy. East followed with the seven and South put up the king, (Assuming that the hearts divided two-one, -which Is the normal expectation, ha Intended to draw trump with two pulls and then lead the king of spades. The defense would presumably win the ace and cash a diamond trick, Jiowever South is in on the return and can overtake a heart with dummy's six and idiscard his losing club on tha queen of spades to score up an overtrick on the deal. When West showed out on the first heart lead, declar- er's bubble burst. There I no way to get over to dummy and the final result was a one j trirk set as the opposition won one trick in each suit. When South led the heart from dummy, he should hava put in the nine from his hand as a safety play. If West has the queen, he is .welcome to it, for now the trump suit is assured of dividing two-one and North's six of hearts becomes a delayed entry. After the defense cashes a diamond, they will presum- ably switch to a club, how- ever South has time to establish North's queen of spades for the needed club discard and he loset only three tricks. By taking the heart finesse, South protects himself against a three-nothing trumn break 1A Aside from a shortage of energy, you have the field clear to do pretty much as you please.
