Everybody is the cen- tral character in their own movie. It's a very social busi- ness. So it's really joyful, interesting to participate in interviews, particularly when the two of us are together." Sutherland, born in Saint John, N.B., is a lanky blonde, six-foot-four and 185 pounds and wears a moustache. At 39, he has a string of film credits, including Klute with Jane Fonda and Don't Look Now with Julie Christie. Gould, 35, looks heavier. He's six-feet-three and weighs 205, has dark eyes and brown electnc-shock-curly hair, and is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. He appeared on Broadway in musicals and drama before he went to Hollywood for movies. Once married to Barbra Streisand, by whom he has a son, Jason, 7, Gould is divorc- ing Jennifer Bogart with whom he has two children. Sutherland lives in a Quebec farmhouse with French actress Francine Bisset, who recently gave birth to their first child. He has two children from two earlier marriages. They are growing up in California. Sutherland worries that they will have no concept of regular weather or changes of season. Both actors say they watch their weight. "I may not look too Gould said, "but it's because I'm careful about it." Gould keeps an apartment in California and Sutherland telephone in a closet." Neither of them owns anything anywhere. Sutherland has completed The Day of the Locusts, and is working on The Defence, bas- ed on a Nabokov story about a chess player. 1 BLOCK NORTH OF WATER TOWER MAYOR MAGRATH DRIVE 328-2732 W I L D E R H0MES S E Singles, Doubles and Modular Mobile Homes Outstanding Values 2x4 Wails Double insulation tn Ceilings Roor Joist 2l02-2nd Ave. N. Mr. Murphy told about 500 delegates to the Radio Tele- vision News Directors Associ- ation annual international convention the reporting of kidnap stories is a dangerous responsibility. "A life is more important than breaking a news story." ELLIOTT GOULD Opera group big hit TORONTO (CP) The Canadian Opera Company scored a visual triumph here with sets for Giuseppe Verdi's poignant Parisian love tale, La Traviata. Splashes of applause and gasps of wonder interrupted the music of the first act as a dazzling display of lavish drop curtains, gossamer screens with Art Nouveau designs and revolving sections of the stage were combined into a.stunning showpiece. Designer Robert Darling was led out for a curtain call and received an ovation from the capacity crowd at the O'Keefe Centre. Canadian soprano Maria Pellegrini sang the leading role of Violetta, the consump- tive courtesan whose final love affair with young Alfredo ends tragically as she agrees to his father's request that she break off their affair for the sake of family honor.
