And it begins a 26-week run Sept, 19 at p.m on (lie CBC-TV network. Although the characters portrayed in the series are fictitious, they are drawn from real life and repre- sent hopes, fears, attitudes and prejudices, typical of the Canadian experience today. The four principal branches and three generations of Prides featured in the chapter series live in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Win- nipeg and Vancouver, and various programs and program segments were whiten and taped in these locales, adding both another note of authentici- ty and some interesting glimpses of the Canadian scene. The problems faced by the Prides are typical of those experienced by contemporary Canadians. The series characters represent diverse life styles, economic strata, cultures and faiths. In fact, about the only thing most of them share in common is their ancestry, which can be traced back to Old Dan Pride, ailing, 91 year old former Ontario MP now living on the fami- ly farm near Toronto. In episode one Old Dan decides he wants to see all his children and children's children gathered at (he homestead and instructs his son Hoss (a Toronto in- surance man who holds (he same scat in the Ontario Legislature that his father once did) to issue an urgent call to bring the family together from across the country. The resulting chance congregation, triggered by the whim of an old man and combined with Old Dan's wishes concerning the future of Uie farm plus an unexpected but lucrative offer for the property, sets in motion an inevitable chain of events Uiat will alter and transform the lives of all the Pride descendants in future episodes. Although major central themes remain unresolved from week to week, each episode of Uic CBC series can be enjoyed as a separate dramatic ex- perience. As certain dramatic situations c 11 m a x, other plot elements develop. House of Pnde was created and is co produc- ed by .Jack Nixon Browne and Herbert Roland. Need a Prescription?
