Reverse Process The usual fish breathing style is reversed by certain bottom- dwelling rays. These bring water in through the tops of their heads and out through their gills. They would draw sand and bottom debris into their gills if they were to breathe as most fish do. Here's Solution To Space Problem With today's liiyh cost of housing and increasing mort- gage rales the prospect of mov- ing to a larger home has many problems. The book offered here solves your problems. A room can be added to almost any home without changing its basic design. Such a project is not as diffi- cult as some persons believe. The step-by-step directions in this book explain not only how to add-a-room, but how to in- stall new windows, interior panelling and exterior siding. The directions tell what mate- rials to buy, how, when and where each is used. CINERARIA rPHIS is hardly the time to be thinkijig of Easter, tat if you want to have your cin- erarias blooming at this time you should begin to think about planting the seed now. These large or small, daisy or star- like flowers, in colors of rose, pink, red, violet, blue and scar- let are easily grown. If, on the other hand, you want these beautiful plants in flower dur- ing the winter months, then sow the seed in the spring. Some of the clusters grow quite large and are most showy. Cineraria seed is quite small, so just sprinkle it on top of the compost consisting of equal parts of loam anil peat moss finely sifted, or on moist sphagnum, taking precautions not to let it dry out during germination. Water the com- post first, otherwise the tiny seeds will be washed out of place. If you are an expert at sowing you can just barely cover the seed, otherwise do IN LETHBRIDGE: 6134th Avenue South Phone 328-4214 not cover. After sowing, cover the flat or pet with iglass or plastic and keep shaded, and at a cool temperature. Once the seeds are up and large enough to handle, ap- proximately an inch or so high, prick out into flats spacing them 2 inches apart each way, or into pots, using a mixture of 3 parts earth and 1 part of rotted manure with a little sand for drainage. Or, you may use equal parts of loam and peat moss with a little sand. Finally, pot up into 5 inch pots. Do not ovenvater, especially after repotting. Once establish- ed, then copious amounts of water may be given, especially during the summer months. Keep out of direct sun and spray occasionally to give them the humidity that they require. The secret of establishing ;ood plants in winter is to grow them without any set- backs and keep in a cool at- mosphere, around 55 degrees F. for bud setting and around 45 degrees F. after that. In warmer temperatures, there is always the danger of greenfly or aphids attacking the plants. These can be quite trouble- some, causing the flower heads to droop and wither. Spray with an insecticide recom- mended for house plants. Fer- jlize twice a month with M-20- 20 or any suitable, complete fertilizer. Propagation may also be made from cuttings or division. Knee the plant has finished ilooming it is usually discard- ed. Although strictly speaking, t is a perennial, most people grow them as annuals. The Stellata mixed has small, star shaped flowers, growing about two feet high and are most attractive. The grandifloras have large flowers and come in many beautiful colors.. The large flowered :ompact strain, Gem mixed, lave short leaves with flowers 3 to inches across. The )lant itself grows from 8 to 10 nches across. This is consider- ed to be one of the earliest to lower from seed. Palette is also a dwarf strain with large inch flowers in brilliant and exquisite colors. Hansa is an- other lovely cineraria. It is quite an early bloomer and the plants are fairly compact and very iree flowering. Mr. T. Would you please ive me some hints about the reatment of Daylilies which to bloom. Ans. Daylilies will normal- ly flower even in the most dif- ficult situations. They do, how- ever, require an abundance of moisture during the growing season. Perhaps you have them in too dense shade.
