Wasp Stings Kill Five Persons PARIS (AP) France is upset today about wasps. A 46-year-old farmer in cen- tral France was stung on the head and died Monday night, the fifth person to be killed by wasp stings in 10 days. A wait- ress was taken to hospital be- cause of a sting, and a school- teacher stung on the arm lay in a coma. The country's largest mor- ning newspaper, Le Parisien Libere, gave the story front- page treatment, calling t b e wasp attacks "a stupifying mystery for our scientists." The Communist party organ L'llumauite, also published the story on page one, but under a headline that read: "Two mor- tal wasp sling cases don't make an epidemic." Le Monde had a long story on the wasps that was signed by a physician. The article reported that wasp and bee stings kill- ed almost three times as many Frenchmen as snake bites did in the last seven years. The reason there have been more wasp slings lalely, the ar- ticles agreed, is that there have been more wasps.
