No. 010121 of them saleable and in the an- tique category, were found in Mr. Coombs' basement, a ga- rage and a lean-to attached to his home in which he lived until his death in June. The items will be sold during what will be one of the largest auctions of its kind ever held in two-week sale start- ing Nov. 3. Hundreds of items not worth including in the sale have al- ready been disposed of, said the spokesman. Mr. liked to be known as a retired antique known in the an- tique trade as a man who never sold any valuable article. "He frequently offered to sell valuable antiques, but he al- ways backed off before the deal was one dealer said. "However, he would sell or auction less desirable arti- cles, duplicates or items which had been damaged, such as cracked or broken chinaware." One man who got to know Mr. Coombs well was Pat O'Hara, at whose auction house the sale will be held. "A couple of years ago, Mr. Coombs talked about selling some pieces to finance an oper- ation for throat cancer which he had at the said Mr. O'Hara. "But nothing ever came of it." Sugar beet crop best in years WINNIPEG (CP) One of pulp cattle feed will be worth the best sugar beet crops in years, harvested from acres of southern Manitoba farmland, is being processed this fall by 300 workers to sup- ply 80 million pounds of sugar for Ontario and Manitoba con- umers. William Willison, manager of Manitoba Sugar Co. Ltd. which processes all the Manitoba har- vest, says: "this has been one of the best harvests in years with beet sugar content of up to 16 per cent, which is excel- lent by comparison. During the fall period known as "The Campaign" in the in- dustry, the kctory produces sugar at a rate of 85 pounds every two minutes. This year "The Campaign" began Sept. 24 and is expected to last until Jan. 10. Last year the process- ing period ran from Oct. 3 to Dec. 15. The output 80 million pounds of sugar, tons of molasses and tons of about million, said Mr. Wil- lison. The growers receive between 59 and 63 per cent of the gross return depending on market conditions three-quarters of it within a month of delivering the beets. UNESCO admits China PARIS (AP) The executive board of the United Nations Ed- ucation Scientific and Cultural Organization voted Friday to recognize mainland China as "the only legitimate representa- tive of China in UNESCO." The motion, adopted by a 25- to-2 vote with five abstentions, had the effect of ousting Nation- alist China from the organiza- tion and accepting the Peking government. "He was a hard man to bid against at an auction if he really wanted said Dosi Burford, an Edmonton an- tique dealer. Both Mrs. Burford and Mr. O'Hara said that once Mr. Coombs bought an item few people were permitted to see it once he had it at his home. When he did let people into his house he'd only show a few pieces at a time.
