Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - October 30, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta THI IETHMIDGI HtRALO Saturday, II, 1970 Ex-CalgaryWorker Offers To Resign WINNIPEG (CP) Alan fiarly, executive assistant to Manitoba Attorney General A. H. Mackling, has offered his res- ignation following testimony to Calgary inquiry into civic af- fairs that he stole change while employed by that city as a cashier. Mr. Early made the admis- sion in a statement, prepared here, in answer to written ques- tions from Mr. Justice W. G. Morrow who is conducting the Calgary inquiry. Mr. Early admitted taking change from parking meter re- ceipts for coffee while, an em- ployee of Calgary. The thefts took place in 1962. Testimony to the commission has indicated use of parking meter change for coffee was common practice by employees. Mr. Early said Friday he is "prepared to waive the immu- nity" he is entitled to under Al- berta and Canada evidence acts and "account publicly and to Mr. Justice Morrow for the content of my affidavit as it af- fects me personally." Soviets Want Spaceships Compatible With U.S. Type MOSCOW (AP) The presi- dent of the Soviet Academy of Sciences said today that the So- viet government considers it "expedient" to build spaceships sufficiently compatible with U.S. spacecraft to permit Sovi- et-American docking and rescue operations. Mstislav Keldysh told a news conference that Soviet space ex- perts had Just completed two days of exploratory negotiations with representatives of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Moscow. In answer to a question on the prospects of close U.S.-Soviet space co-operation, Keldysh re- plied: "The fact that we had these talks shows that we .are.inter- ested in having compatible spaceships. But this is a very complex matter that requires further study." The news conference was called for a report on results of the unmanned Luna 16 space- ship, which landed on the moon last month, scooped up a sam- ple of moon soil and returned it to the earth.
