Mr. Schmid was commenting on a statement by Barney Reeves, a University of Calgary archaeologist, that early man sites and other historical treasures in Alberta including those at Fort Maclcod were being wantonly looted and destroyed. Mr. Schmid said he is giving high priority to the introduction of new legislation to control the activities of amateur treasure hunters. Other provinces and some of the United States will be asked to provide copies of their laws controlling antiquities "so we can study them and have the best legislation in North Mr. S'chmid said he hopes the legislation can be passed at Lhe spring or fall session of the legislature next year.
