Phone 328-9766 STOMN AND GAS UP FOR FREE GIFTS Body Shop Cleanliness Key To Quality Of Work The body and paint shop you look for is the one with the fa- cilities that will give you a good-as-factory finish. How to qualify a good shop? Simple! An outstanding paint shop will have a good reputation. A few well placed questions among close Wends arid busi- ness acquaintances will bring forth some interesting fr re- garding quality of work, ser- vice and prices. Insurance companies e another excellent source for determining the best paint and body shops in town. About 85 per cent of the body rebuild- ing and retinishing business is done on a bid basis with in- surance companies. Respon- sible shops are known by their good reputation for their square dealing and top notch workmanship. Browsing through a paint and body shop, one can fur- ther qualify it. Out in the shop notice if they thoroughly clean the car body with clean-off li- quid and remove the wax, and if the body is washed under- neath? Is the car sanded, primed, masked and aD chrome removed? Look around. What Hud of house keeping is maintained out in the shop? Is there sand- paper lying around in the spray area? This would mean that the dirty dusty sanding op- eration is done in the spray area. In a good practices shop, the sanding takes place in a remote specified area in order to avoid surface contamination on the job site. Notice how the painter is Does he have a clean starched uniform? A soiled, linty shop coat throws off particles that can mar a wet surface. Is the paint shop equipped with well kept tools? Although the paint spray equipment may not be readily discernible, is there a spray booth with a filtered air intake or at least an exhaust to assure a con- tamination-free paint job? How about room tempera- ture? Is it in the comfortable 70's? This proper level of tem- perature has a bearing on .the properties of paint and the ultimate quality of the paint job. Are there qukk dry ovens to reduce surface contamination while drying? The presence of all or most of these features usually indicates a volume business resulting from good work. You cant' always judge the shop by its advertising. Be cautious of extravagant claims and bargain prices. A proper paint job takes so much time to do and the cost will be com- mensurate to the good-as-fao- tory finish. On the other hand, many responsible promotion-minded shops will intentionally give an honest price break on a com- plete, paint job instead of partial when body work has been done. Don't mistake this as a hard- sell practice. They only do this because it is very hard to match new paint with old no matter how skilled the painter may be and how hard he tries. The responsible shop rec- ognizes this and wants to avoid dissatisfied customers. Winter Hints With winter on its way, bet- ter make sure your car heater is functioning properly. Often passengers in the front seat are comfortable but those in the back seat are cold. You turn up the heat, but it doesn't seem to make it to the back. The hot gets hotter and the cold stay cold. One reason for this may be a clutter under-seat. Generally, the heat flow is designed to travel under the front seat to the rear compartment. If there are rags, papers, tools and oth- er things in the way the heat will be prevented from reach- ing the back. A tune-up improves gasoline mileage, and engine perform- ance. Planning a trip? Consult your local service station for the best routes. Check your windshield wip- ers and cleaning fluid often. Its a good idea to check all around your car before start- ing. Make sure that there are no glass or obstructions around your tires During mites of driv- ing, spark plugs fire over times.
