PAGE 2 KEY INGREDIENT A key ingredient of Champion Spark Plug Company's Cleaner Air Clinics is on exhaust analyzer which measures hydrocarbon and carbon mon- oxide emissions produced by car engines. Various ignition system malfunctions can increase these undesirable emis- sions dramatically, showing the maintenance is a vital contribution to cleaner air. Avoid battery problems Ever wonder why some- times during starling, your car's battery sounds like it's dying then suddenly kicks off? A major source of the prob- lem could be dirty battery ter- minals or loose connections. Open the hood of your car. Are the battery terminals cov- ered with what looks like a green moss? If not, are they loose? The green substance is acid build-up. When it reaches a saturation point of covering tile lead terminals, energy transmission is impaired and starting becomes a problem. In advance stages of acid build-up, not enough energy is transmitted to even turn the engine over once! Corroded or loose battery terminals are easy for your lo- cal service station mechanic to fix. The investment will be nom- inal and you'll be free all sea- son long from Ulis "won't start1' caxise. A. W. "CHICK" MACINTOSH Let Us Get Your Cor Ready For Winter Driving! Engine. Ever why you should change the spark plugs in your car after every miles of driving? There's a good reason. The JO.OOO-mile plug change recom- mendation is not actually based on the fact that spark plugs are "worn in the strictest sense, after miles. This figure selected after extensive spark plug life tests merely represents a safety factor beyond which plugs are likely to misfire under the sud- den demands of peak accelera- tion or extremely heavy load. It also rcpresenls the point at which gas economy begins to drop and starting becomes more difficult. Champion Spark Plug Com- pany engineers consider a spark plug worn out when it reaches the point where it is likely to misfire regardless of its appearance. And, con- trary to popular opinion, mis- firing doesn't necessarily mean the plug failed to create a spark. It simply means that the plug failed to ignite the gaso- line properly, whether a spark was produced or not. How can a spark be produced and the plug still -nisfire? Be- cause "spark tracing" (or high- tension current leakage) through carbon deposits on the spark plug's firing end can re- sult in a weak spark, which in turn causes incomplete burn- ing of the fuel mixture, and re- sults in a loss of both power and economy. High resistance, which de- velops as the spark plug elec- trodes become rough and un- even and the gap between the electrodes increases, also can result in the spark being too weak. Here, too, the gasoline isn't ignited properly and in- complete burning of tire fuel charge can result. WINDSHIELDS BROKEN? Have it replaced now by experts at Lethbridge Sash Door!
