Pair PANTYHOSE DISCONTINUED NO SEW attend funeral for TV's Ed Sullivan NEW YORK (AP) About persons went to St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Cathedral in a heavy rain Wednesday for the funeral of showman Ed Sullivan. Terence Cardinal Cooke, archbishop of New York, presided over the mass for Sullivan, who died of cancer Sunday at tne age of 72. The wooden coffin was carried through the downpour into the huge church, where Cooke, pale from a bout with malaria contracted in West Africa, blessed it and covered it with a white cloth. "For anyone who knew him even a little, no eulogy is said Msgr. James Rigney, administrator of the cathedral. Mayor Abraham Beame told reporters as he entered the church that Sullivan was "a friend who gave so much to New York City and the world in making people happy." Sullivan, a columnist for the Daily News, was host of his television variety show from 1948 to 1971.
