Miss Palo - Heimo is the lady who founded and directs The Claremont Experiment, a movement located just north of Toronto which practices the "sensiti\'ity group" method of helping people overcome their problems and become more aware of themselves and others. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 8:30 p.m. on Channel 7 CBC-TV's Telescope '71 takes a hgbt and lyrical look at Miss Palo - Heimo and The Claremont Experiment. This edition of Telescope includes a day - long visit with the Claremont people, during what they term a marathon session - where the participants remain cloistered together for a long period of time and communicate through both words and touch. The techniques of sensory awareness employed by Claremont are designed to awaken the dulled senses of touch, smell hearing, taste, and speech and by doing so, shake off the shackles of our modem technological envu-onment. The inside story is that Mit-chlU was simply h-cang 2 bad boy- He used the foulest of language aroimd the set. He threatened people and, according to one person who was there, he hit a member of the production staff. He would show up at 11 a.m. - when he was supposed to appear at 6:30. "We ai-e sick alx)ut it." said one of MitchlU's business associates, "because we know he's a talented man who may have kicked his biggest chance away by his temperamental shenanigans." Mitclilll was not making himself available for any comment. Television, operating as it does on a tight schedule, cannot afford a temperamental actor, a trouble - making actor. The word is that MitchUl's cutting - up cost thousands of dollars beca-ise of the necessity for going overtime. Now Sie question is - will the show continue at all? They are, officially, looking for a replacement. But if the early rat- j ings are not good, the ward is that the whole project will be dropped. I Incidentally, before the ugli-1 ness crops up - the firing was SCOEY ]VnTCHLLL not racial. MitchlU's black fellow cast members were as upset at his behavior as anybody else and wondered why the producers took so long in doing what they did.
