Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - October 10, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta 20 1HI tlTHBRIDGE HERALD Saturday, Octebtr 10, YOUR HOROSCOPE By JEANE DIXON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11 Your birthday today: Men- tal and psychh development are promised for the year ahead. You may find you have finished some major mission in life, only to find another waiting. Your person- al values change, so that things once of no concern are now important, and vice ver- sa. Romantic interests like- wise redevelop, are less frus- trating. Today's natives are generally good workers with inventive, practical minds. Frequently there is a strong interest in metaphysics and religion. ARIES (March 21 April A few questions that have both- ered you for a long time can now be solved you may not like all the answers. Hold onto your pocket cash; you find bet- ter uses for it later. TAURUS (April 20 May Trying too much loo fast is tempting. Trying to do too little likewise doesn't work out well. Take the middle course; be sure of what you want to do. GEJHNI (May 21 June You now seem' to talk faster than you think, to offer criti- cism not taken in the spirit you intend. Tact 'makes the differ- ence with overly sensitive friends. CANCER (June 21 July Money is the root of concern today, particularly among friends. Concentrate on spiritual values; lending isn't the answer. Reflection at end of day brings a strange idea. LEO (July 23 Aug. Now it is your turn to co-operate with the plans of influential peo- ple. Home life is better this eve- ning, with new plans to make. VIRGO (Aug. 23 Sept. Distinguish between petty hin- drance and a genuine question. Canada Records Deficit In Stock, Bond Investments OTTAWA Interna- tional dealings in stocks and bonds in the second quarter of this year led to a net outflow of million in Canadian invest- ment funds, Dominion Bureau of Statistics reported today. It was the first such deficit in more than three years. There was a net inward flow of ?S53 million in the first three months of the year. The net surplus in lie second quarter of last year was million. The turnaround resulted largely from an unusually-high rate of retirements of Canadian securities held the redemption of an Italian currency note by the govern- ment in May and a sharp decline in new Canadian borrowings abroad. In all, retirement of the Ital- ian note plus redemption of pro- vincial, municipal and corpo- rate bonds held abroad amounted to an outflow of million, compared with mil- lion the previous quarter. Borrowing abroad through new issues fell sharply to million from million in the first quarter and million a year earlier. Provincial governments re- duced foreign borrowings at the request of federal Finance Min- ister Edgar Benson following re- Valuation of the Canadian dollar June 1. Corporations also were dis- couraged from issuing bonds abroad as the cost of borrowing hi the United States, cheaper than in Canada at the beginning of the quarter, became about equal to the cost in Canada by June. _ Trading in outstanding stocks and bonds was less active in the quarter as markets were sup- Canadians bought back million worth of Canadian shares and million worth of Canadian bonds and sold off million in foreign securities, producing a net outflow of million in funds. Dealings in new foreign secur- ities produced an outflow of million from Canada, but that was offset by a balancing inflow from the redemption of foreign securities held by Canadians. VAGUE ROOTS The derivation of the word al- manac is obscure. It may possi- bly be connected with the Ara- bic manakh (calendar) and manah (sundial) and with the Latin manacus GOREN ON BRIDGE BY CHARLES H.
