Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - November 25, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta ___________Wednesday, 25, 1970 THE IETKBRIDGE HI-BALD 31 Canada buys heavy water from Russia OTTAWA (C1J) Canada lias concluded a deal with the Soviet Union to buy 55 tons of heavy water to help meet a .shortage of the material in the domestic nuclear power production pro- gram, it was learned Tuesday. The price was the going mar- ket price of about a pound. Deliveries will begin in the spring, probably to the Picker- ing, Ont., site of Ontario Hy- dro's nuclear power program. The sale, possibly the first of heavy water to a Western coun- try from behind the Iron Cur- lain, was arranged by Lornc the Crown corporation's direc-, tor of industrial 'co-operation.
