Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - November 25, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta ___ Wednesday, November 25, 1970 THE UTHBRIDGE HERAtD 13 MEN'S AND BOYB i FOUND HANGED Rich- ard Pierre Anloinc Bros, 25, a naturalized Canadian, de- scribed as a sympathizer of the Front de Liberation du Quebec, was found hanged in a jail cell in London, Eng- land. Bros, a native of Som- mirsgarde, France, w a s picked up on minor assaulc charge. Richrd Pierre Antoinc Eros 25, French-born with a Cana dian passport, apparently ha hanged himself from his ce bars with his twisted-up shirt day after being arrested on minor assault charge. His body was found shortl before he was due to be ques lioned by Scotland Yard's Spi cial Branch, evidently becaus of his connection with Front d Liberation du Quebec, whic kidnapped British Trade Com missioner James (Jasper) Cross in Montreal Oct. 5. But police said today ther seemed no connection betwee professional and the Cross kidnapping. The dead man's Canadiai passport showed that he hai been living here since 3967 am in that time appeared to hav travelled only to France, th birthplace of himself and hi wife. An inquest Into the death o Bros opened today but was im mediately adjourned tentatively to Dec. 22 for a pathologist's re port on a post-mortem. While the police were highly reticent Monday on the nature of the charge against Bros, i turned out today that he hai been in an argument with hi; landlord and the landlord lodged charge that Bros beat him with a stick of kindling wood. The Daily Mirror said Bro was the man who disclosed an FLQ plot to assassinate tht Queen when she visited Canada in 1964. The tip led Canadian po- lice to organize their biggest se- curity operation up to that, time the newspaper said. When he was arrested here police said they found FLQ lit erature in his home. In his pocket was a clipping telling o his arrest in Quebec seven years ago on terrorist charges. Bros appeared in the Court o Queen's Bench in Montreal in November, 1963, with two other men on charges of conspiring to set fire to a Montreal armory. Bros pleaded guilty and was given a one-year jail sentence. Container ship on lier maiden ocean voyage SOUTHAMPTON, England (CP) The Dart Eu- rope, described as the world's largest container ship, sailed from here today on her maiden transatlantic voyage. She is carrying cargo to Halifax, New York and Norfolk, Dart Europe is operated by Dart Containerline, a British- Belgian-Canadian consortium that includes Clarka Traffic Services Kach of the three companies involved is providing one ship. Dart America, due to enter service next week, is owned by the Canadian company. The third and Britisli-owned vessel is scheduled for service next spring. The three ships and ancillary dock equipment here arc cost- ing the consortium about ?02.5 million.
