Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - November 19, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta 32 - THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD - Thursday, November 19, 1970 Canada's wheat sales share climbs OTTAWA iCP) - Exports of wheat and flour by the four main exporting countries increased substantially in August and September, with Canada accounting for more than half the total gain from the same two months of Mi1.). The October Wheat Review, published here by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics, shows total exports by the four countries up by 4G per cent to 282.6 million bushels in the first two months of the current crop year from 192.9 millicn bushels in the I960 period. Motorist killed ROSETOWN. Sask. (CP) -Walter Clayton Maksymic. 20, of Edmonton, was killed when he was struck by a car near this west-central Saskatchewan town. Maksymic was filling the empty gas tank of his car on a highway south of Rosetown when the incident occurred. Canada's share of the total was 82.9 million bushels, up by 120 per cent from the 37.6 million bushels exported in the first two months of the last crop year. In the same period, the United States increased exports by about 32 per cent to 122 million bushels. Australia and Argentina each improved exports by almost 10 per cent, Australia to 64.1 million bushels-an Australian record for the period-arid Argentina to 13.6 million bushels! Stocks of wheat available for export Oct. 1 in the four countries were down by seven per cent to about 2.8 billion bushels from three billion a year earlier because of the growth in export sales and reduced 1970 harvests, especially in Canada. 1970 CROP SMALLER The 1970 world wheat crop is expected to tally about 10.3 billion bushels when final figures are in, a slight decline from the 10.6 billion last year but greater than the average 9.2, billion in the decade to 1968. The estimated reduction of 300 million bushels from the 1969 world wheat crop compares Theatre show nets $1,741 for students OTTAWA (CP) - A special Stratford National Theatre performance of Moliere's Tartuffe on Nov. 7 raised $1,741, all of which will be donated to the Leo Ciceri Fund for theatrical students, the National Arts Centre lias announced. The Leo Ciceri Fund was established in August after the Stratford theatre actor died of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Kitchener, Ont. It will enable aspiring ac-ors ?j attend the National Theatre School in Montreal. with the decrease this year in Canada alone of about 354 million bushels to a total crop of 330 million under the pressure of a stockpiled glut and the federal crop-reduction program. The U.S. crop was reduced by less than 100 million bushels to 1,360 million. In Australia and Argentina, the outlook for crops being harvested is for sharp reductions in both countries. Australia is expected to harvest about 280 million bushels, down from almost 400 million a year ago, and Argentina's crop is expected to yield about 165 million bushels, down from 258 million. In France, the harvest of soft wheat this fall was estimated at 454 million bushels, down from 522 million last year. Elsewhere in Western Europe, wheat crops were down slightly except in Britain. Eastern Europe's harvest was reduced but Russia's crop is believed to have shown a sharp improvement. We will be moving to our new and ultra modern facilities in just a few short weeks. But prior to our move we are making every effort to reduce our present inventory to a record low. This is being done for two reasons . . . one, as you know ifs costly to move, and secondly orders hrve been placed for a great many factory fresh cars that will be arriving presently. Recent trade-in's on new cars, plus the influx of 71's arriving demand we take immediate action before we move.
