The Industrial index, consid- ered a major indicator of mar- ket trend, was up .29 to 2L0.23 and western oils 1.03 to 230.33. Golds, however, were off .96 to 175.88 and base metals .07 to C3.53. Volume by 11 a.m. was 692- 000 shafts compared with 000 traded by the same time Thursday. Beverage, oil refining, indus- trial mining and sleel stocks were among sectors of the mar- ket adding to the increase while chemical, commurication, pa- per and forest rnd u'.ilily issues were off slightly. Advances outnumbered de- clines 139 to 105 while 108 issues remained unchanged. Trade was active. Slaughter cattle offered were practically cows. These sold steady. There were insufficient steers or heifers on offer to es- tablish a market. Good cows, 23.50-24.50, medi- um, 21.50-23.25, canners and cutters, 17-21. Replacement cattle and stock calves met a keen demand at fully steady to strong prices. Good feeder steers 750 pounds up 35-40.80, under 750 pounds 3843 with odd sale higher. Good feeder heifers 32-36.60, good stock and feeder cows 22- 27.50. Good slock steer calves 45-50, good stock heifer calves 35-41, with sales to 42.50. Hogs average base price 36.85.
