Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - November 17, 1972, Lethbridge, Alberta PAGE 4 CBC-TV's 20th birthday marked by color special One Thousand and One Nights, a 90-minute color spe- cial marking CBC television's 20th anniversary year, goes into production this week at CBC Toronto, produced by Ray Mc- Connell. A loot at people and programs of "the good old days" of Canadian TV will be combined with guest appear- ances, musical and dance num- bers. The nostalgia will come mainly from edited tapes of some of the early shows. One Thousand and One Nights will be telecast on CBC- TV, December 13, at p.m. (in Hosts for the special are five personalities whose TV careers span the two decades: Frank Peppiatt and John Aylesworth (the comedy writing team now active in American Juliette, Gordie Tapp and Pi- erre Berton. The roster of guest stars in- cludes: Wally Roster, Joan Fairfax, Dinah Christie, Lor- raine Foreman, Tommy Hunt- er, Tommy Common, Tommy Ambrose, The Hames Sisters, Jack Duffy, George Murray, Don Cullen, Alfie Scopp, Paul Klingman, Percy Saltzman, Fred Davis, Cliff McKay, Syl- via Murphy, Peter Whlttall, and more. Lome Greene will deliver some one-liners via film. The show will also feature production numbers involving two groups of dancers, and Alan Lund is choreographer. Lucio Agostini has been named musical director of the show, and will do some ar- rangements, along with Rick Wilkins (musical consultant) and Jim Pirie. The special is written by Chuck Weir, Lor- raine Thomson and Allan J. Ryan. Stephen Maxwell is re- searcher. One Thousand and One Niphts was taped at CBC To- ronfo's Studio 7 with Peppiatt and Aylesworth coming from Los Angeles for two of the stu- dio diays. Joan Fairfax, who now sings on the Florida club circuit, will fly in for one day. Weekend football The die has been cast, so to this time around will see a one- speak. Only four clubs remain in the chase for Canada's most prized football bauble, the Grey Cup. Following sudden death semi-final encounters in Ottawa and Edmonton last weekend only Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughrid- ers are alive in the Western Conference while Ottawa Rough Riders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats still have a chance in the east- ern Conference.
