An official in Prime Minister Trudeau's office said confirmation of Mr. Pepin's defeat is "very sad" from the gdv'ern-ment's viewpoint. But he pointed out that when Mr. Trudeau announced three days after the Oct. 30 election that his government would stay there was a Liberal-Progressive Conservative stalemate then as there is again now. In the see-sawing of results, with other close finishes still lo be resolved in recounts, the p-esent Commons standing is 103 seats each for Liberals and Conservatives. The New rength cralic Party has 31. Social Credit now has 15 and there arc two independents. MAY SHIFT AGAIN Commons standings may shift again as recounts are carried out in a number of ridings between now and Dec. 5. deadline for final official results. Mr. Pepin said before the election that it would be his last. However, government soirees speculated that if Mr. Trudeau wished to keep Mr. Pepin in the government a way could be possibly by finding an opening for him to contest a bj'election in another constituency. In the past, such openings have been made by the sacrificial resignation of an MP. Such a move, or a Senate appointment for Mr. Pepin. would be something lo be decided latffT, an official TEENS Are you 'iving with a problem drinker in your home?
