World sugar contracts posted impressive gains for the week in the east. Small gains for the five sessions were posted on the Chicago board of trade in corn and while soybean oil and meal closed mixed. Gains were marked up in pork belly live cattle and live .hogs as well as shell egg futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. meal and oil strengthened after midweek on the board of trade after it was learned the Peruvain government would not fill ex- port commitments after the end of November because of a short supply of fish-meal and oil. an agricultural statistician said that with the expected increase in world soybean production as well as other there should be no shortage of ingredients for livestock or poultry feed ad- ditives Futures collapsed on the board of trade with limit declines in soybeans and com and oats also eased Pork belly futures respond- ed to lighter storage stocks and improved cash while live hogs rose on a belief hog production might be thin until late next year. Live cat- tle prices were influenced by expectations of lighter marketings. At the close wheat futures were 13 lower to 13 Dec. corn to Dec. oats to 3 Dec. 1.21 soybeans 4 to 12 Nov. soybean oil 70 points lower to 5 Dec. and soybean meal 5.00 a ton lower to 3.20 Dec. 159.20. Flax prices were more than to cents lower in all months. Rapesced was modestly lower in early trade but turned easier toward the close in response to hedging sales. Declines ranged from to 20 cents. Oats edged higher in the nearby while barley changes were mixed and frac- tional. Rye was five or more cents lower in thin trade. Trading on all classes of cattle was active to strong reflecting the import surtax on live cattle and fresh beef. Toronto reflected midweek price increases of S3 to for A-2 steers and for heifers with late trading losses diminishing early gains due to heavy supplies on offer. Western prices were strong with Calgary up to for steers and up to for heifers under a broad demand. Feeder cattle and calf receipts decreased with about head on offer Eastern prices were strong under a moderate demand while western prices were moderate under a good demand. Receipts for sheep and lambs increased more than 000 with head on offer. Centres reported increased prices and active trading. Good lambs 33 to 34 50 Big gains Industrial index on the Toronto Stock Exchange rose 12.16 during October to finish the month at 237.42. The biggest gain was made in western oils which rose to 286.75 from September's close of 243.47. Gold finished September at 265.59 and rose 20.51 to finish the month of October at 286.10. Base metals made the smallest gam finishing at a gain of 3.86. Industrial index on the Montreal Stock Exchange rose 12.85 during October to finish at 268.88. Banks finished October at a gain of over Sep- tember's close. Utilities rose 5.79 to with Papers rising 6.28 to finish October at 158.50.
