Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - November 10, 1972, Lethbridge, Alberta Comedian's work in TV no play Anyone mho thinks a tele- vision comedian's work is play should talk to Dom De- Luise. During one week in Octo- ber, Dom rehearsed daily for two NBC Television Network shows, "The Dean Martin Show" and "The Flip Wilson Show." Both shows were taped the same day. Dean Martin's show began taping at 4 p.m.; Flip's 30 minutes later across the hall. "I never sat said Dom. "I ran from one studio to the other and changed costumes in the hall. I was in such a hurry that some- body in the hall offeree! :ne a drink and I drank it with- out even thinking that I don't drink." The plan was executed by show stage managers. They had to arrange Dom's appear- ances on Flip's stage when he was not in a sketch on the Martin stage. So they taped the acts on Flip's show that did not include Dom first. Then, when he was available, they'd whisk mm onto Flip's stage and back again in time for his next act on the Martin show. "It was really too said Dom, "I was going over my lines for a magic act on Flip's show while getting DOM DeLUTSE dressed in a Santa Claus suit for Dean's. Another time I was wearing the magician costume which had a gimmick in it housing three dozen ping- pong balls. The thing opened in the hall and all the balls rolled everywhere. "Everyone scrambled to pick the balls up and get them back in the contraption during all this I never stopped running." Through all of the commo- tion, Dom made only one mis- take which was qirickly cor- rected, he called Flip "Dean." IETHBRIDGE Sex films in Philippines come under censor's ban MANILA (AP) Eomba I movies, the sizzling sex fare of the Philippines film industry, have been banned from the new society of President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The death blow, administered by the Motion Picture Censor Board, came in a directive that prohibits all films "which serve no other purpose but to satisfy the market for sex or violence." Guillermo C. de Vega, chair- man of the board, said the ban also will apply to foreign films. Bomba, which means bomb in Tagalog and Spanish, means sex on celluloid in the Philip- pines. Imagination was not re- quired in viewing a bo-mba film. Bomba movies were cheap to pesos, undar a film. Top stars such as Rossana Ortiz and Alona were paid or more to bare their bodies before the camera. movies, always filmed in black and white, were shot in hotel or motel rooms, beach cot- tages, or even a director's home. The plot, if it could be called that, was simple. There were always good guys and bad discotheque scene with a bevy of bare-bo- somed dancers and several fights with guns and karate chops flying among the prota- gonists. The movigs were completed in a week or two at the most. The script, if one were written for the film, was a bare guide- line, with the actors improvising their lines as the film prog- ressed. Dialogue not what bombas were about. SHOW SEX ACT Bomba movies, although cx- t r e m e 1 y popular with the masses, were not without their critics, particularly the clergy in this predominantly Roman Catholic nation. "Bomba movies actually were Striptease that was not scheduled The shenanigans during on- location filming of various This Is The Law episodes stem f r o m a sense erf cam- eraderie which the This Is The Law performers and pro- duction crew share with the props, lighting and technical crews who work with them. For example, in one se- quence, cameraman Trevor Kingsley-Jones was asked to stand atop a large rock to film a striptease scene be- side a smoke-filled taxi cab. A wasp flew up his leg and bit him on the thigh.. While screaming furiously in Welsh, Trevor Kingsley-Jones quick- ly doffed his trousers whi le his assistant cameraman filmed the unscheduled strip- tease, possibly with the thought that it could be used on 'the show. Anyhow, most of the censors were In Manila." Miss Townsend, whose par- nts live in San Francisco, made her debut two years ago. The first bomba movie ap- peared sometime in 1968, argely in response to the im- XKrtation of sex films, particu- arly from Europe. In the begin- ing. bomba movies featured orrid ki s s i n g scenes, then moved to bare breast displays and ultimately the sex act itself. "It's what the public wanted and what they paid three pesos (45 cents) to Miss Town- send said. Houses showing such films were packed from the time their doors opened at B a.m. until midnight. Miss Townserxl said she made her first bomba after being dis- covered in a beauty parlor by a producer of bomba films. "I didn't have a job at the time and it was an easy way lo make money."
