Born July 1878, at Beamlnster, Dorsetshire, England, the late Mr. Purkis sailed from Eng- land at the age of 21 years, arriving at Nisgara Falls where he worked for a few years. In 1904 he came west to Pincher Creek, a fellow pas- senger al Father Lacombe. In 1910 he married the former Florence Foote of Pincher Creek and worked and resided there until 1958 when the fam- ily moved, to Lethbridge on re- tirement. He has been a mem- ber of the Pincher Creek Lodge, I.O.O.F. for 64 years and a past Noble Grand, also Past Master aad Life Member of Spitzie Lodge No. six AFAM and life member and Past First Principal of Kether Chapter No. six Royal Arch Masons. He was very active in sports, and played on hockey and soc- cer teems for mjiny years. His musical ability was used throughout his life-time and he gave freely of it by playing the organ for all the Pincher Creek and area churches whenever upon. He wns a mem- ber of the town orchestra and a star of several musical pre- sentations. A member of the United Church, he was an elder and secretary treasurer for twenty-five years. He is sur- vived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Purkis of Golden Acres Lodge, one son Lloyil of Lethbridge; our grandchildren; two grc-.t- ?rimdchilr'.Ten nnd by two sis- ers in England.
