Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - November 4, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta Western oils lead advance TORONTO (CP) Industrial and western oil issues recorded strong advances as prices in most sectors of the Toronto stock market moved higher in active mid-morning trading today. The industrial index was up 1.75 to 163.50, western oils 2.32 to 201.47 and base metals .71 to Golds were off .43 to 133.30. Volume by 11 a.ir. was shares, domi from at the same time Wednesday. Advances outnumbered de- clines 181 to 5G with 143 issues unchanged. Strongest of the in- dustrial index's 17 sub-groups was steel. Other strong sectors were backing, beverages, in- dustrial mining and oil refining. N'oranda was up Ki to Falconbridgc to Pan Ocean 25 cents lo S9.33, Sherritt to ?12'.i. Ltd. fell to S9 while Union Carbide fell to NEW YORK (AP) Stock market prices held to a solid gain today, but their upward momentum appeared checked. Trade was brisk. The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials at noon was up 5.84 at 848.42. Earlier, it was up more than 7 points. Advances outnumbered de- clines on the New York Stock Exchange by more than 3 to 1. Analysts said the market was still on the upturn after Wednes- day's sharp climb. Several New York banks cut their prime lending rate per cent to 5'.i per cent, and the I U.S. government reporlcd a slight decline in wholesale prices on average for last monlh.
