Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - May 29, 1909, Lethbridge, Alberta W IN EVERY OTHER LINE PRICES TALK In builders' .hardware, especially where a man buys in large quantities, our prices cannot be equalled. We have just received another large con- signment of'builders' hardware and are placing it on the market at a very low figure, depending on the bulk of business to make up for our small profits. It looks as if Da-d and his counci were going to have some fun over their fire 'department plans after all Aid. Cunningham, who had charge of that department if or" two years, has put La a vigorous kick against the council's talk that the present outfit s no good and that all the work he and his committee did in two years did not amount to a hill of beans. It does seem, pretty hard lines to vork as hard as -ilr. Cunningham did or the city and then to be handed as ilump a lemon as that. But I think here is some misunderstanding some- vhere and perhaps some grounds for he opinions of both Mr. Cunning- ham and his successor. It is true the fire alarm system, as it is, is a sort of last year's bird's nest, but that is not 'because the system is vcrong, -but because the batteries used can't supply the juice, and the system should be run by power from the station properly arranged. My uncles probably let their im- agination run away with them when, they condemned the fire hall as use- ess as a fire hall, forgetting for the time that .if: all the various and sun- dry other offices were taV'en outfit would be a whole lot .different as a lire hall. On the other, side, Aid. Cunningham has not let his imagination have -free enough play for 'he can't see Lethbridge over forty feet -high, in the near future1.' I don't" think that Dad and Ms council want to spend all the money they'can just for the j fun of seeing it go, 'but they have taken a tumble to the .fact that the city Is just at .the stage of its his- tory vrhen. money has'to.be'spent out of proportion' to its population or wealth. Editor of The Herald Sir llilk River district which has opened for oniy a short time ago has developed Into a well settled colony of bright, intel- lectual farmers, who are sparing no means or energy to make this one of the best farming localities in Sunny Southern Alberta they are bringing in their families, with the intention of making this their future home. All are busy getting in every acre of crop possible, and having everything to do we find it rather uphill busi- ness at times, but are climbing the ladder round by round with a strong determination to win out tmd to auild up as homelike a farm as in our power. We do not get discour- aged, however, as we knew previously about what we could expect, and carne in with our sleeves rolled up and said, "this is our home and this s where we will stick." The large majority of us have ship- ped by railroad anywhere from 1000 ,o 2000 miles, with our stock, farm machinery and household goods at a heavy, expense, have teamed across ,he country all the way from 15 to 30 miles, some even .farther than that, over bad. roads, owing to the disagreeable late spring, and have hauled water from the river or from sloughs all "the way from 1 to "5 miles for our stock before we were well; we of incon- OF CANADA Head Office, QUEBEC, Comparative Figures For Fifteen Years Capital May 31st 1895, f 1900, 1905, Feb. 27th 1909, May 31st 1895, 1900, 1905, Feb. 27th 1909, April 3rd 1909, tewnt Fnlfc May 31st 1895, 1900, 1905, Feb. 27th 1909, fetal Aaek May 31st 1895, f 1900, 1905, Nov. 30th 1908, Mar. 31st 1909, LETHBRIDGE J.
