Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - May 26, 1972, Lethbridge, Alberta Expropriation of land in Canada investigated THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD FRIDAY, MAY 26, 1972 Canada the big land, nearly four million square miles of it from coast b coast. Hoom for all, one would think, plenty of space for growth and development. Yet only a relatively small percentage has been developed, mainly the populous areas that lie along the U.S. border. Here, where we have our biggest cities, our best farms and rec- reation areas, competition for the land is fierce and more and more agricultural land Is dis- appearing beneath brick and concrete. The name of this game of progress is expropria- tion and it's been going on ever since the wlu'te man first set foot here, as CBC-TV's Country Canada shows on its next ed- ition, Sunday, May 28 at p.m. This edition of Country Can- ada will also include a report from Ottawa on the Interna- tional Seed Trade Congress. This is the first time that the 36 member-nations of the Inter- national Seed Trade Federation have met in Canada and the discussions include such topics as the role of the Seed Trade in world ecology, the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act, and the expanding European Common Market.
