manner for the further growth and development of the region including the protection of the key watersheds in the mountains and foothills and the abatement of water pollution Improvement of the urban and rural environment Maintenance of Southern Alberta s comparatively clean unspoiled environment through such public action as restoring abandoned resource extraction sites civic and rural beauffication programs and education programs for the appreciation and conservation of the region s natural environment Provision for comprehensive land use planning for rural areas Preservation of prime agricultural lands for agricultural use and resolution of conflicts between non-agricultural uses as country and agriculture Provision for a systematic approach to outdoor recreation Development of a comprehensive system of recreation areas facilities and open space in order to make use of our abundant rec.eation resources and to alleviate the serious shortage of developed parks and recreation areas Our mountains and foothills river valleys and reservoirs contain much untapped recreation potential Provision for a transportation system to facilitate development Development of a safe convenient economical attractive and efficient means of transporting people and goods throughout the region and to areas beyond the region Provision for a coordinated and convenient social facility system Coordination of community and social facilities and services such as hospital fire and ambulance services in a more economical and efficient manner in order to better serve the public Provision for adequate housing and standards of urban design subdivision design Provision for adequate and suitable housing for sufficient numbers of people m the region and establishment of high standards of subdivision design Provision for the alleviation of problems and realization of the potential of some sub-regions having unique problems and characteristics More detailed examination of the Crowsnest Pass Waterloo Park vicinity Indian Reserves and Lethbndge and environs Provision for a framework lor effective implementation of planning proposals Establishing proper channels of communication between municipal and provincial bodies m order to i effectively implement the recommendations outlined in the Plan AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT copies of the Plan and sub- sequent
