Beginning today on Channel 13, CTV presents the first of thirteen programs on consumei'ism with a funny and entertaining format. The show is called "It's Up To You" and is hosted by Alan Miller. He is assisted by Marvin Gold- May 20 The Bedrooms of the Nations Actor Barry Morse romps through various beds, old and new, in The Bedrooms of the Nations, an affectionate look at the history of civilization via the beds, Saturday, May 19 at 10 p.m. on the new CBC-TV seres Gallery. Entertainment documentary to begin Saturday What goes on behind the scenes at the world-famous Daytona 500? What has been the impact of the transistor on our lives? Do herds of wild horses still roam freely in this country? And what was the Great Canadian West really like in pioneer days? If you've ever pondered over such topics, then consider yourself a ready-made fan for CBC Television's newest Satur- day night series, Gallery. A wide ranging entertainment documentary program, the half-hour series makes it debut Saturday, May 19 at 10 p.m. (in color) on live CBC-TV net- work. Featured on the 11 upcom- ing shows wUl be the last wild horse roundup in Canada, a climb up Squamish Chief, a vertical "rock near Vancouver; and an inter- view with one of the very last "survivors" of the pioneer Ca- nadiaJi Prairies. Marking the series' debut (on May 19) will be The Bed- rooms Oft Nations, tongue jn-cheek look at the history of that Indispensable piece o! fur- niture, the bed. Barry Morse Is guide for this lighthearted look at the history of civiliza- tion via the bedroom! The Stock-Car Boys, on May 26, visits the world of big-time stock-car racing, Speed Week at Daytona Beach, Florida. Each year, over fans congregate to root for such stars as Richard Petty and Bobby Allison and this year Earl Ross, asi Ontario racer, the first Canadian ever to compete in the event. Visual portraits of two artists will be featured on June 2. For many years, Ralph Fasanella pumped gas by day in the Bronx, and painted, unrecog- nized, by night. Suddenly, at the age of 58, he finds himself a celebrity people turned out at a recent one- man show to see and buy his paintings, some for as high as The show also visits the pic- turesque Toronto Island, where Madja, a quiot Dutch-Canadian artists, lives in peace and tran- painting and enjoying life. (This show coincides with an exhibition of Fasanella's paint- ings at the Shaw-Remmington Gallery in Toronto, May 26 to June 9.) har and Julie Amato. Time slot for this show is p.m. "It's Up To You" presents informative material and con- frontation situations for can- test ants to judge, and informs the audkaice about new legisla- tion, new publications and oth- er aspects of the Federal De- partment of Consumer Affairs. Contestants are asked to view true to life case histories of consumer situations and very short vignettes to pick out what may bo wrong or confusing in a buying situation. "It's Up To You" covers food, clothing, car sales, home furnishings, appli- ances, beauty and health clubs, finance companies, travel agents, landlord-tenant rights and numerous other consumer interests. The program tips consum- ers on seasonal purchasing, what to loak for when pur- chasing goods, how to detect spoiled goods and tips on stan- dards and qualities. The show specifically explains the mean- ing of the terms and names used in the commercial fields. Many pecple are surprised to find out that there are people in the government who are do- ing things to help protect the consumer and many ana not aware of consumer protec- tion legislation. So the situation isn't hope- less. With increasing protection for the buyer he can become aware the ways and means to cut prices and to protect himself from unscrupulous business practices. Jo Davis producer for Fred TORONTO Jo Davis has been appointed producer of "The Fred Davis a new Screen Gems (Canada) produc- tion which will debut in Can- ada thiis September. This marks the first time that the Davises have ever worked to- gether since they first met eighteen years ago while work- ing on a television series. For the past five years, Ms. Davis has been a film maker and a producer of TV projects in both the entertainment and documentary fields.
