Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - May 13, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta 5-THE LETHBRIOQE HERALD May 1974 Ask Dick Kleiner DEAR As a musician and a film and TV fan I get a thrill every time I hear the fanfare that precedes the feature movies put out by the 20th Century Fox studios. There is a long and a short version on different occasions. Who is the composer of this stirring little masterpiece and why isn't the full length one used all the EMMET S. New La. 20th Century Fox Signature as it is was composed by Alfred Newman. Which the short or that is used is at the discretion of the producer. Some feel the long version delays the start of the hence opt for the short one. DEAR Why do the TV networks let some shows such as the daytime soap operas use the word and other cuss words but knocked it out when Jack Webb said it on the previews of the show called If sone shows can use why not other D. Va. There is a double standard about language and other things on TV. The networks feel that only adults are watching the soap or should while the kids could be watching Dragnet and other shows in prime time at night. It's a darn shame. DEAR We recently enjoyed what the whole family thought a most interesting TV movie starring Gloria Was this based on a ancient or which might still be in print or available at the MRS. JOSEPH Md. From the names of the one might think a ranket and a viols and virginals would produce pretty crummy and racketty music. But in the hands of the Huggett who make their summer home in these instruments from the age of the first Queen Elizabeth yielded and wonderfully peaceful music on a summer afternoon at the Guelph Spring Festival. The family-father mother two sons and two daughters specialize in music of the medieval and Renaissance and in contemporary folk songs. The Elizabethan before was a lusty one in which the Queen and her it is weren't beyond tumbling into bed on a drunken evening with any one of a number of courtiers. The minstrels of the day provided the background music and entertained with poetry and jokes. But judging from the music of the Huggett it was also an age of sweetness and sentimentality. One woman asked after the concert Sunday whether she could buy Huggett Family because the music so suited her hobby of making medieval tapestries. RECORDINGS MADE She can. The Huggett Family has made recordings and will make more. It has appeared on the concert stage and in and this week will record music for a National Film Board animated short on a Christmas subject. Leslie Huggett said in an interview the family is just back from a winter spent in practicing and doing research on the music prior to 1500. One thing he was that the story of old musical instruments led him back to Nova where craftsmen can reproduce instruments which long ago fell into disuse. He hopes in future to incorporate some of them into the Huggett Family programs. Voight relishes stage role NEW YORK One minute Jon Voight is joking and poking fan at himself.
