Roy Kemp, 327-3rd St. S. 2685. Gen. Marshall Holds Veto Over Loan to China WASHINGTON, May W General George C. Marshall is holding an absolute veto over a United States loan to China, it learned here. It is one of the strongest grants of power ever made by a president to an American envoy to oack up United States policies in a foreign country. The Chinese loan is cited by dip- lomatic authorities as a striking example of the extent to which President Truman and State Sec- retary Byrnes have earned their new policy of bargaining for Am- erican aims with American, dollars. In another application the state department has suspended credits to in cash and surplus war until it can determine whether the Polish government intends to grant promised political freedoms. Some decision on the Polish situation may be forthcoming this week. Receivership Of Abitibi Ends TORONTO. Of these the sea horse is one of the most inter- esting. In the long ago it was believed that the sea horse was ft colt that would grow up to be one of Father Neptune's horses. This may DC toe basis for the nopular idea, that these fish are o'f considerable size. Their size is a great surprise 10 many people seeing them for the first time because the common varieties are only two to four inches long. The sea. horse has a- head some- what, like a horse, a tail like a. mon- key and swims in a vertical posi- tion. Sea horses are the only fish this type of tail It is very useful to its owner, who, having Uttle power of propulsion, wraps it around a sea plant and with the current. that uork independently are an advantage too (although they give the sea horse a comical they are able to iook in different directions at the same time. Tiny shrimps and worms that make up their diet are brought to them by the water cur- rents. These are gobbled up by a mouth like a soda straw, which sucks them in. Most amazing of all, is Mr. Sea Horse's kangaroo-like pouch. The eggs are deposited in the pouch by mother sea horse, who then goes merrily on her way, without a thought or care for the coming familv After a period of Incuba- tion the eggs hatch and the young are ushered into their watery world.
