PHONE increase good news to Alberta EDMONTON (CP) President Nixon's decision to increase United States crude oil imports from Canada by 30.000 barrels a day for the balance of 1972 is "welcome news" to Alberta, Bill Dickie, minister of mines and minerals, said in the legislature Thursday. Mr. Dickie said the Increase is retroactive to Jan. 1 which "will mean additional revenue lo the province of about S3 million tins year." But Mr. Dickie said he Is somewhat concerned because the U.S. increased daily import quotas on Latin American and Middle East crude by barrels. "I think we have to watch that, because we are in competition with that and it does involve a question of price." The province's Progressive Conscrv.'ilive government recently announced a tentative plan to raise an additional S50 million lo million in 1973 by taking crude oil reserves, a move which would increase the price of Alberta crude in the U.S. by an estimated 15 to 25 cenls a barrel. AL Calgary, the Independent Petroleum Association of Canada said it is encouraging that the United States has increased oil imports for the balance of 1972. "We liad hoped, however, that all restrictions on the imports of Canadian cnide into the U.S. would have been com-plelely said G. W. Cameron, general manager of the BOOK NOWI 1 cenl so It.
